Volvo XC40, EC40 and EX40 as a special Black Edition model

The Black Edition is already known from large Volvo models such as the XC60. From the 2025 model year, they will also be available with two electric models EC40 and EX40 and a combustion engine XC40. Production is scheduled to begin in April 2024. The cars are completely black. In addition to the Black Onyx color, the exterior glass, roof and window surrounds are painted in high gloss black. The front of the XC40 has a black sports radiator grille, the two electric Volvos are equipped with a closed radiator cover. All cars have a black Volvo logo in the middle of the grille. The model name lettering on the back is also designed in black.

In addition, all three SUVs feature 20-inch alloy wheels in a dual-tone design and high-gloss black. The interior continues to be dark. The anthracite headliner matches the color of the comfort seats, which are equipped with all sorts of extras from Volvo. For example, with electric seat adjustment, memory function and lumbar support. The aluminum door sills contrast with the dark interior.

The minimum level is the equipment level Plus

Customers opting for the Black Edition spec model can choose between two higher-end hardware variants, Plus and Ultra. The cars already have a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system with 600 watts of power, 13 speakers and a subwoofer as well as an Android car infotainment system and an air quality system on board. This filters fine dust from the air in the car.

The Keyless Drive entry system allows the vehicle to be started without a key. In addition, the rear gate can also be opened using sensor control. On top of that, there are several support systems that, according to the manufacturer, aim to ensure greater safety. These include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot, lane change and cross-traffic warning systems as well as the Pilot Assist comfort function on board.

With all engines available

The customer can combine the Black Edition with all available storage types. However, the single 175 kW (238 hp) engine in the Volvo EC40 and Volvo EX40 is only available for the Plus equipment variant. Three more powerful engines – from 185 kW (252 hp) Extended Series Motor Single to 325 kW (441 hp) Twin Motor Performance AWD – can be combined with both Plus and Ultra equipment levels. If you want a hybrid, you can choose the XC40 with the 120 kW (163 hp) B3 petrol engine or the more powerful 145 kW (197 hp) B4 hybrid.
