In China, Ferrari surprises Norris: “I’d bet I’d finish in 35 seconds” – News

What a redemption for Lando

Alternative dishes for Lando Norris over the weekend in Shanghai, China. On odd days he was a shocker, on the ‘even’ day he made a mistake at the start which basically ruined his Sprint. The balance, however, remains very positive. The McLaren driver signed the pole position in bad conditions and today in the Chinese GP he was a big surprise with the MCL38 which returned to be – for the first time in 2024 – the second team on the track behind Red Bull.

Do you deserve the team led by Andrea Stella or the more losses of Ferrari? Norris leans more towards the second option: I was surprised by the Ferrari’s lack of speed – announced the English pilot – I had bet that I would finish 35 seconds behind them. I’m glad I was wrong.”

In a press conference, Norris went into more detail about a surprising (positive) Sunday for McLaren: “We have not changed anything compared to yesterday – his words – only what we thought might be weak points like the long curve 1-2 on the right was not. Maybe the new asphalt helped us, and the old one we would have struggled more, at the moment we have been behind Red Bull and Ferrari and nothing made us think that today would be different. Of course we are working to the best of our ability, but we have not invented anything special. Nothing gave us any indication that we would have an amazing race, yesterday’s Sprint was not exciting.”
