The first pictures of the electric Range Rover, in action

The first electric Range Rover is closer and, awaiting the official presentation, it shows itself “unveiled” in the Arctic Circle. No special surprises, though: the electric version is very similar to the heated version sold nowand in the pictures taken those beautiful features, seen before, which characterize the electronic version are no longer present.

JLR yes published pictures of the car involved, as mentioned, in a crucial test on the Swedish preserved lakes. An environment that can reach temperatures of -40°C, perfect for testing the behavior of transmissions, electric motors, batteries and power electronics in extreme temperatures.

Battery and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) which will be integrated in-house by JLR for the first time. The manufacturer who also developed the software responsible for controlling this unit internally.

To make sure everything is taken care of, we’re well underway with our physical testing and development program, all designed to push the Range Rover Electric to its limits and ensure its capabilities remain unchallenged when it reaches you.” writes Thomas Mueller, CEO of Land Rover, in this issue.

A new generation traction control system is on board, with short response times

The manufacturer has not revealed any features of the car, except for the new traction control system. A system specifically designed to deliver the best on hard terrain, and which distributes the wheel slip control function directly to each electronic traction control unit, reducing torque response time for each wheel from around 100 milliseconds to just 1 millisecond.

There are no further details, however, neither on the power pack used nor on the battery characteristics. The only news is that the Range Rover Electric will be born on the 800 V platform so we can expect very fast charging.

Another interesting thing is better driving ability, which increases to 85 cm. These are values comparable to those of the Defender, with the company highlighting the fact that it faces higher data than other electric SUVs.

Interest in the first electric Range Rover is huge: JLR has confirmed that it has already received more than 16,000 expressions of interest. Although the expression of interest does not mean booking, JLR chief executive Adrian Mardell said the company is “enthusiasm about the great interest of customers in the electric car“.
