After qualifying very well in the last round of the season and starting from third place, Marc Márquez crosses the finish line in 7th place and scores nine points. The runner-up of the Repsol Honda Team, Pol Espargaró, is in fourteenth place with 2 points.
After starting from third in the field, Marc Márquez remained in the top seven throughout the race, on a track that is one of the worst for the Honda RC213-V. The Spaniard eventually maintained this position until the end of the race and finished seventh.
Pol Espargaó jumped several positions during his difficult weekend in Malaysia. The Repsol Honda Team rider, who started in 20th place after the penalty received on Friday, maintained a good pace to finish in 14th place, scoring 2 points.
12. Marc Márquez (113 points)
16. Pol Espargaró (56 points)
Marc Marquez: “As I said yesterday, what we did in qualifying was beyond us and that’s what I expected from our race. We gave 100% to achieve the best possible result. We started very well, but I felt that I didn’t have the speed to continue leading. I tried to find my seat and avoid unnecessary risks to get good news from the race. I did whatever Honda asked me to do, so I hope they use this information to improve next time. Now, after a difficult weekend, we can start preparing for Valencia because here we can see the level of our bike. I think we can be stronger in Valencia.”
Pol Espargaro: “It was difficult today, mainly because of the temperature. It wasn’t as hot as in previous years, but the humidity was very high. We started P20 and had to be aggressive in the first laps to make up for some losses. In the end, we managed to get two points, and winning six places. Now our target is Valencia, where I was strong before and I think this circuit will suit our bike well.
