Toprak Razgatlioglu exceeds all expectations with the BMW M1000RR in the 2024 Superbike World Championship, and the German manufacturer accepts the Turk’s wishes and suggestions accordingly.
In an ideal world, Toprak Razgatlioglu should get to the podium regularly in his first year with BMW and get his first win since the middle of the season. The title should aim for the second year of the contract, 2025. Considering BMW’s performance since returning to the factory in 2019, these were already ambitious goals.
The 27-year-old exceeded all expectations and ran onto the podium in third place in the Superpole race at the first meeting in Australia. In Barcelona, Razgatlioglu took two victories in impressive fashion and won a major BMW race for the first time since 2013 (Chaz Davies at the Nürburgring).
In Assen, the German manufacturer had never managed a podium finish before this weekend, with Toprak finishing second in the first race despite poor conditions. Without the accident (oil on the track) he could have won the race.
No wonder BMW anticipates every wish of its new look. At Assen he got a new seat pad for his M1000RR to improve its braking and acceleration performance.
“I like the new seat, BMW built it for me very quickly, thank you very much for that,” Toprak praised his team. “The previous seat cushion was a bit narrow. It was low in the front and raised towards the back, which I didn’t like because I sat too high when braking. Now the seat cushion is flat, but my sitting position was no longer correct. For so BMW built me a riser at the end of the bench that I can sit on. Now it’s perfect. Look at the picture, it’s easy to see what they built.”
BMW team boss Shaun Muir told SPEEDWEEK.com in an exclusive interview on Friday in Assen that he would like to extend the contract with Michael van der Mark for 2025, Toprak is already installed.
“My dream is to win the World Cup this year,” said Razgatlioglu in the Netherlands. “I couldn’t say that before the season, but now it seems possible. I’m happy with Michael as a team member, the pit conditions are very good and we work well together. Would BMW ask me (Who he would like to have as his teammate next year – a writer), I will say Michael. He is a nice, respectful person, we work together on race weekends and also in Superpole.”
