Audi Q8 e-tron – electric SUV and crossover in Tunisia

21.04.2024

In 2018, the premium manufacturer entered the era of electric mobility with the Audi e-tron, marking the beginning of its electric journey. Since then, the model has become a benchmark in the luxury electric SUV segment. The new Audi Q8 e-tron today represents a new chapter in the success story of the electric pioneer. The premium electric SUV and crossover impresses with its improved drivetrain, improved aerodynamics, high charging performance, increased battery capacity and range, which increases to 582 km for the SUV version and 600 km for the Sportback, according to the WLTP cycle . The new flagship SUV gets a facelift with major changes, especially at the front of the car.

Since the introduction of the Audi e-tron four years ago and with 150,000 units sold to its credit, Audi has been steadily pursuing its electrification initiative. Its electric portfolio today has 8 models; by 2026, there will be more than 20. At this time, Audi will sell only 100% electric models. “As part of our ‘Vorsprung 2030′ strategy, we have set a date for the phase-out of our combustion engines, and we have decided to become 100% electric producers within 11 years,” explains Markus Duesmann, president of the board of AUDI. AG. “With an improved design, improved performance and range, the new Audi Q8 e-tron joins the models in the electronic portfolio designed for everyday use that awakens consumers’ interest in electric mobility. » Oliver Hoffmann, member of the management board responsible for technical development, he also emphasizes the benefits that this change offers to customers. “In the new version of the Q8, we have significantly increased the battery capacity and charging performance. This enabled us to achieve a better balance between energy density and load capacity, and improve efficiency,” explains Hoffmann. “In addition, we have further improved the engine, continuous steering and chassis control systems, and thus the driving characteristics of all versions of Audi Q8 e-tron.

A new face, a new name and a new corporate identity
By naming this Q8 model, Audi clearly confirms that the Audi Q8 e-tron is the top model of its electric SUVs and crossovers. The 100% electric character of the Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron can be recognized at first glance thanks to the new front and rear design, which adopts the brand’s electric visual identity and rings. A luxury electric SUV, the Audi Q8 e-tron includes a new corporate identity and a two-dimensional design of four outer rings. The model’s lettering, which accompanies the Audi logo on the window pillar, is also new.

Maximum space and comfort
With a length of 4,915 meters, a width of 1,937 meters and a height of 1,619 meters for the Sportback and 1,633 meters for the SUV, the Q8 e-tron offers maximum space and comfort. Their 2,928 meter wheelbase leaves plenty of legroom behind. The SUV offers a generous 569 liters of storage space, compared to 528 liters for the Sportback. An additional 62 liters is also available in the front trunk.

New power train
With their two engines, the Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron produce 300 kW of power in acceleration mode and 664 Nm of torque, and have a range of up to 582 km (SUV) and 600 km (Sportback). according to the WLTP cycle.

Battery with increased capacity and better charging performance
The battery of the Audi Q8 e-tron has a storage capacity of 106 kWh (a total capacity of 114 kWh, thanks to the modification of the battery management system, the usability for customers has also increased. In the high-power charging station, Audi The Q8 55 e-tron achieves a maximum performance of 170 kWh. The battery charges from 10 to 80% in approximately 31 minutes, providing a range of up to 240 km (according to the WLTP cycle) in the ideal AC charging mode or the wall, the Audi Q8 e-tron charges up to 11 kW. Audi offers an optional AC charging function up to 22 kW.

New engine on the rear axle and electric torque vectoring for better dynamics
In the new Audi Q8 e-tron, the concept of an asynchronous motor on the rear axle has been changed. 14 coils (compared to 12 previously) now generate an electromagnetic field. The engine creates a strong magnetic field with the same amount of electricity, in turn developing high torque. Basically, an electric motor requires less energy to produce torque, which reduces consumption and increases range.

The right balance between comfort and sport
As usual, the new Audi Q8 e-tron is equipped with air suspension and controlled shock absorption. Body height can vary by a total of 76 millimeters, depending on driving conditions. To improve the vehicle’s lateral dynamics, the air spring configuration has been revised. In addition, the stability control system (ESC) will provide more maneuverability in the future, especially in tight corners. The Audi Q8 e-tron will reach you more easily thanks to its new progressive steering wheel. The gear ratio of the operating system has been changed so that the response is faster, even during delicate movements. The direct steering ratio effect is aided by strong suspension bearings on the front axle. Steering movements are transmitted directly to the wheels, and the response is improved. All chassis control systems have been revised, but remain balanced and synchronized, true to Audi DNA.

Improved aerodynamics
For the Audi Q8 e-tron, the issue of aerodynamics was a high priority, resulting in a reduction of the drag coefficient from 0.26 to 0.24 cx for the Q8 Sportback e-tron and from 0.28 to 0 .27 cx for the Q8 e-tron. Underbody-mounted spoilers help recirculate air around the wheels. As for the spoilers on the front axle, they have been extended, and the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron now has spoilers on the rear wheels as well. Next to the grille, this is the first time for an Audi model to have a self-closing system by adding electric shutters that close the radiator directly. This system further improves the air flow in front of the car, preventing unwanted losses.

Luxurious interior
The panoramic glass roof illuminates the interior and provides a sense of space and lightness. The glass elements open and close electrically. Black sun shades are easy to control. When open, the two-part glass roof improves the climate inside through good ventilation. The integrated wind deflector also reduces wind noise. As an alternative to the dual-zone automatic climate control system, the Audi Q8 e-tron offers four-zone automatic climate control (Tunisian standard). As an option, all equipment can be covered with decorative materials in wood veneer (sand ash or sycamore), in aluminum for the S line version Voice control and high-resolution touch screens.

Like all Audi luxury models, the Q8 e-tron uses a steering system MMI touch response. Its two large, high-resolution screens (10.1″ for the upper one and 8.6″ for the lower one) replace almost all the usual buttons and switches. A large number of functions can also be activated via the native voice control. L’Audi cockpit in full HD resolution complements the digital display and operating concept of the Audi Q8 e-tron. Specific graphics present all the important aspects of electric driving, from charging performance to range. As an option, a head-up display can be added. On the German market, the Audi Q8 e-tron will come with MMI Navigation plus as standard.

Launch on the Tunisian market
The Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron SUVs are currently available at Audi Tunisia from 299,000 DT for the Q8 e-tron, and 349,000 DT for the Q8 Sportback e-tron.
