The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is an electric convertible with 750 hp

There’s no screaming V8 engine under the hood of Italian brand Maserati, but an all-electric powertrain for the convertible above. The Folgore version, as Maserati’s electric line is called, of the GranCabrio has 750 hp and thus demolishes its sibling, the regular GranCabrio with a V6 engine, when it comes to traffic lights.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is currently one of the few convertibles that is electric and has room for four people. In terms of design you can see the difference between the petrol GranCabrio and Folgore. The grille is different and the EV has a wind deflector behind the last row of seats. The electric GranCabrio is also available in the bronze color you see in the gallery, the V6 GranCabrio is not available.

The powertrain known for the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore has the same electric motors as the GranTurismo. That means: about 750 hp and less than 1,350 Nm of torque. Power goes to all four wheels, which is also good for all that torque. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and the top speed is 290 km/h. The convertible weighs about 80 kg more than its nearest sibling and can travel between 419 and 447 km with the same 92.5 kWh battery pack. With the roof installed, the GT Folgore can travel 450 km. So you lose very little driving range by choosing a convertible.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore has plenty of power, but lacks sound with an electric motor. That is why the new electric Italian will probably have a sound generator, which can be compared to that of the Abarth 500e. In this way, the GranCabrio Folgore must sound different from the average EV, inside and out, according to Maserati.

There will be a heavier Folgore

Maserati continues to power its electric lineup at a rapid pace. The brand recently announced that there will also be an electric variant of the MC20. We’ll have to wait until next year for this. Prices for the GranCabrio Folgore are not yet known and Maserati has not yet announced anything about delivery times. So this summer you can’t go for ice cream with this Maserati.
