The Maserati Grecale Folgore is the second model to be equipped with an electric powertrain. That certainly doesn’t leave you short on horsepower, but is that enough to turn an SUV into a real Maserati?
Like any self-respecting car brand, Maserati is also into electrification and doesn’t take any half measures. For a short time, it will sell a fully electric version of every model in the range, including the flagship MC20!
124,600 euros for Maserati Grecale Folgore
We already drove the electric GranTurismo Folgore last year and it turned out to be a surprisingly good and fun car. A good start, but the electric version of the Grecale is more important for Maserati, as this is the best-selling model of the brand. This Grecale Folgore has now arrived and, with a price of 124,600 euros in the Netherlands, it will cost the same as the four-cylinder models, but will be more powerful than the Trofeo with a biturbo V6 that costs almost two tonnes.
At the moment, Maserati has not yet chosen to use specific EV platforms, but to replace existing vehicles. Therefore, Grecale Folgore (Italian for ‘electricity’) can only be recognized as an electric version on a deep level. It’s even more streamlined and ordered with the cool ‘aero’ wheels.
Premium EV interior
The interior has also largely remained the same. Naturally, the digital instruments have been modified for the electric drive and some features have also been added to the infotainment system. Econyl fabric, which is made from recycled plastic, is also available in Folgore as upholstery. The finish seemed a lot higher than we remembered from test drives with the regular Grecale.
Performance
The drive comes from two types of electric motors – one on each axle – which together collect 410 kilowatts. The race to 100 km / h is completed in 4.1 seconds, the top is limited to an average of 220 km / h.
Maserati stored the battery cells on the floor of the Grecale until a theoretical range of more than 500 kilometers was achieved. Ultimately, this required a whopping 105 kWh, resulting in the Folgore weighing around 2,500 kg. The pack can be charged up to 150 kW with a suitable fast charger. You can see in the video if the Grecale Folgore, with all that weight (and without the petrol engine!), still drives like a real Maserati.
- Nice car
- It is not immediately recognizable as an EV
- Practical comfort similar to petrol versions
- High consumption
- There is no basic (electrical) technology.
- Difficult
Maserati Grecale Folgore does not have basic driving technology on board, and therefore depends mainly on its appearance, status and rarity.
