Maserati has not shown a new model for a long time. The once proud brand with three symbols in its logo began to slowly fade into oblivion, as did another Italian legend – Lancia. However new Maserati MC20 it is necessary to change this situation to a great extent. A great athlete will make the brand experience an attractive return. The new model is to compete with the Lamborghini Huracán and the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Maserati engineers are proud of the Nettuno engine. Behind this name is a twin-charged V6 that transmits 630 hp and a maximum torque of 730 Nm to the rear axle.

However, the Maserati MC20 should not only be an excellent sports car, but also a comfortable Gran Turismo, suitable for long journeys. The Coupé creates an ideal environment from first contact. In the interior, we did not find the impression of the usual thinness of racing cars. You can sit on the bucket seats comfortably without the need to perform physical acrobatics, it is also easy to take the correct position. The cockpit does not kill the driver with a tsunami of infotainment – two 10.25-inch screens are enough. One of the four driving modes is selected with the help of a large knob, located in the middle, and a button controls the settings of the shock absorbers.

Maserati MC20 – performance worthy of a super sports car

While the Maserati MC20 glides like a cruiser in GT mode, it becomes a model athlete in both convertibles. If one is in a hurry, the car weighing 1,420 kg will reach a speed of 100 km / h in less than 2.9 seconds from the start and accelerate to 325 km / h. The engine responds quickly, although the automatic gearshift was a little laborious in the prototype car.

The electric power steering system, however, already makes a very good impression. The Maserati MC20 makes sharp turns with surprising ease. Due to the equal distribution of weight between the axles and the central position of the engine, the car remains neutral for a long time, in sharp turns and in the combination of curves quickly. It’s only when you overdrive that the rear end makes itself felt.

Carbon-ceramic brakes with a wire brake are sharp, but make a very artificial impression – here the engineers will have to work a little more. However, until appearing on the market this spring at a price of 210 thousand. euro (on the German market) will be enough time to put such information. Especially since the Maserati MC20 Coupé is just the introduction. It will be followed by the Spider and an electric version only.

They’re done, they live longer – that’s an old truth. This is the case with Maserati, an Italian brand with a rich tradition that, thanks to the MC20, is experiencing a triumphant return to the scene. The Maserati MC20 convinces with agility without neglecting comfort.
