Mercedes is marketing the new EQS as the “best status symbol”

Mercedes confirmed the new EQS this week, announcing it as a “complete update” in a press release. The first highlight is the “new radiator cowl with chrome appliqué and standing star”.

This is intended to make the EQS appear “more status conscious” because the sales figures for the electric S-Class lag far behind the real S-Class. Was the front a big problem with EQS? But there is little more.

On the one hand, a larger battery is attached to the bottom so that the EQS can now even exceed 800 km in distance. We have now reached an impressive 118 kWh. In addition, the towing capacity has been increased to 1,700 kg.

Also new is the Rear Comfort Package Plus with performance seats and there is a new MANUFAKTUR Selection. At least Mercedes hasn’t increased the base price, surely they expect a little profit with the new additions.

This is not yet the stage of the EVA2M platform, which has 800 volt technology, so if you look for a large battery, then technically nothing will happen. Mercedes’ hope is that the EQS will now become a better symbol.

I haven’t found the EQ models very interesting so far, but with the new look Mercedes has managed to make me like the EQS even more. But design is personal, you can’t argue about that.

Since I personally don’t care at all about the “status” of a car and although I do care about design, in the end technology is important, I would have expected a little more from the EQS. Let’s see what happens soon with the “real” facelift.
