Lamborghini Squadra Corse is pleased to announce the appointment of Maurizio Leschiutta as the new Head of Motorsport Department. Leschiutta will report directly to Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s technical director, who as interim head led the brand’s racing activities such as LMDh’s first Lamborghini Squadra Corse attack in the FIA ​​​​WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championships.

Leschiutta succeeds Giorgio Sanna, who left Lamborghini in March 2024.

With more than 30 years of experience in motorsport at the highest level, mainly as part of BMW’s LMDh project in FIA ​​WEC and IMSA, Leschiutta will oversee all aspects of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s racing programs from 2025, starting at 24 of Daytona. (January 25-26), where Lamborghini will participate in Squadra Corse for the first time with its SC63. it will go. At the wheel of this historic start will be factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and Edoardo Mortara. In addition, Lamborghini returns to GTD Pro with its Huracán GT3 EVO2 alongside Pfaff Motorsport and Lamborghini factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli, Jordan Pepper and Marco Mapelli.

Leschiutta’s responsibilities include further development of the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh prototype during its second IMSA GTP campaign and the GT3 customer portfolio. The Huracán GT3 EVO2 will compete in the most important GT championships around the world, including the DTM (after Lamborghini’s first victory in 2024), GT World Challenge Europe, British GT and Italian GT, with the aim of commemorating the unique achievement of last year, when Lamborghini won six drivers’ titles and 34 victories.

The final test will be more interesting in 2025, as the new Temerario GT3 will undergo its first outdoor test program at the beginning of the year before being officially presented to the public later.

Leschiutta will also be responsible for the three Lamborghini Super Trofeo continental championships (Europe, North America and Asia) from 2025, all of which have a record series start in the 2024 season.

Before moving to Lamborghini, Leschiutta gained extensive experience in technology and marketing in motorsports. He worked in Formula 1 for eleven years, specializing in engine development, before switching to GT racing. In recent years he has been a key figure in the development of BMW’s LMDh program, where he has worked as a project manager since 2021.
