As a Superbike rider, Andrea Iannone (Go Eleven Ducati) had to learn a lot at the World Championship at the TT Circuit in Assen. Finishing fourth in the second main race, he showed his driving class.
Andrea Iannone has now completed three events in the World Superbike Championship – and has exceeded all expectations. The 34-year-old has already been on the podium twice, has the best pace at times and is sixth in the overall list as the most successful individual.
It seemed that he would have to pay the price at some point, especially because of the Pirelli tires that he was unfamiliar with. Due to the chaotic weather in Assen, the starting work was very difficult for him and the Go Eleven Ducati team, which resulted in an accident in the first race and a 15th place in the sprint.
Iannone showed his ability by finishing fourth in the second main race, in which it was raining at times and the bikes with light tires were very difficult to control.
“If I had trained in normal conditions, I would have been on the podium,” Iannone is convinced. “We are in a learning phase. On the starting grid we changed the power map; My basis for these decisions was the preliminary round – we did not have data from last year. That made it difficult for us, very difficult. After a complete disaster in the Superpole race , we did a good job in the second race. In the sprint I destroyed the tires and drove like I was on ice. The end of Run 2 is a good starting point for the next event.
“Almost everyone can look at a longer history than I can,” insisted Andrea when met by SPEEDWEEK.com. «Bautista, Gardner, van der Mark – they all had data from the previous year. Well, not Toprak, he changed the manufacturer. We can win, but we have to work for it. That is our goal. We have to measure and work. My motorcycle is not at 100 percent, especially when it comes to electricity. To be able to win wins or podium places, my feelings must be better.
The next SBK event is in Misano on the Adriatic over seven weeks; Two test days each are scheduled at the end of May on the new World Championship track in Cremona and Misano.
