Max Verstappen and Formula E: Drunk or what? / System 1

Racing fans in Japan were served twice in a short time: On March 30, Formula E competed in the fifth race of the season on the streets of Tokyo. The traditional Formula 1 GP followed at Suzuka on 7 April.

We have seen five different winners in five electric races so far: Pascal Wehrlein in Mexico City, Jake Dennis and Nick Cassidy in Diriyah, Sam Bird in São Paulo and Maximilian Günther in Tokyo.

In Formula 1 there were three victories for Max Verstappen (Bahrain, Jeddah and Suzuka) and straight for Carlos Sainz (Melbourne).

Following the Japanese Grand Prix, world champion Max Verstappen was asked if he had taken the opportunity to taste Formula E.

The current 57-time GP winner replied: “What I like about Formula E is the high quality of the drivers. I was competing with some of them and a few of my friends are competing there, so I never forget Formula E.”

“But that’s not a category I would want to compete in myself. I thought it would be good to check the track in Tokyo, but I saw a bad jump in the middle of the track. I have to wonder, whoever nodded like that on the track must be drunk. I saw something very strange.”

“But again: There is a lot of talent in the Formula E field and that contributes to the fact that many races are very exciting.”

Maybe Max Verstappen’s pinprick is with Formula E chief executive Jeff Dodds. He recently said that Max Verstappen usually wins in Formula 1, and Formula E does not want to be a series like that.
