Mazda Motor Corporation has launched exports of the U.S.-assembled CX-50 model to Mexico, marking the first time the Japanese automaker has exported a vehicle built in the United States to the Latin American nation.
The CX-50, which is produced at Mazda’s U.S. manufacturing facility in Alabama, is now available in Mexico’s growing sport utility vehicle (SUV) market. The vehicle was first announced in August 2020, and has been gradually released to Mexico over the last few months. The CX-50 was designed to meet the needs of the Mexican consumer and is available in both four- and six-cylinder versions.
The export of the U.S.-assembled CX-50 marks a major milestone for Mazda, as it is the first time the automaker has shipped a vehicle produced in the United States to the Latin American nation. It also marks an important step in Mazda’s strategy to expand its presence in Mexico.
The CX-50 is powered by Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.5L gasoline engine, which is capable of producing up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with Mazda’s SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission and is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The CX-50 is equipped with a variety of advanced safety features, including Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning and Hill Launch Assist. The vehicle also offers a variety of convenience features, such as the Mazda Connect infotainment system and a seven-inch color touchscreen display.
Mazda’s export of the U.S.-assembled CX-50 to Mexico is the latest in a series of moves by the automaker to expand its presence in the Latin American nation. In February, the company announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Mexico to produce the CX-30, its compact crossover.
Mazda’s foray into Mexico’s burgeoning SUV market serves as a testament to the company’s commitment to providing customers in the region with vehicles that meet their needs and expectations. With the export of the CX-50, Mazda has demonstrated its ability to manufacture vehicles of the highest quality, even in a foreign market.
