The front is dominated by a large chrome radiator grille, the headlights are narrow and set apart from the outside.

The first customer cars will be delivered early in the summer of 2022. By the way: If the CX-60 is still too small for you, Mazda has announced a seven-seater CX-80.

Mazda CX-60 at market launch just as a hybrid of plug-ins

Earlier in the development, Mazda promised to go for electricity, as opposed to the current downturn straight-six wanting to give. However, customers will have to wait until early 2023 for these engines.

And 327 system performance hp with 500 Nm, the CX-60 is also an example of the most powerful Mazda series to date. Speaking of performance data: sprint up to 100 km / h takes care of that SUV in 5.8 seconds, with an electronic limit of 200 km / h is over.

Up to 63 miles is possible only by electricity. It remains to be seen whether Mazda will increase battery capacity again in the future.

Mazda stays true to diesel

At a time when many manufacturers are fully committed to electricity, Mazda continues to rely on diesel. The 3283 cc engine is a completely new development and follows a concept called “fair”, which according to Mazda should achieve the best balance of performance and efficiency. But not only that: the new DCPCI combustion technology (Compact-Distribution-Analytically Mixed) is designed to reduce emissions and achieve efficiency of more than 40 percent. At the same time, six-line cylinders should not weigh more than diesel. a 2.2-liter four-cylinder is now available in the CX-5, for example.

From 2023, customers will have a choice between the two performance standards. The smaller version of the long-installed e-Skyactiv D provides 200 hp and 450 Nm of maximum torque, which is delivered to the rear wheels. Consumption should be only 4.9 liters per 100 km.

At 5.3 liters per 100 km, diesel power of 254 hp and 550 Nm consumes a little more. The four-wheel drive is standard with this version. In both cases, the 48-volt M Hybrid Boost system is on board, which supports the combustion engine and the 12.4 kW (17 hp) electric motor that operates on the new eight-speed transmission input shaft.

New eight-speed automatic for CX-60

Power is transmitted by an eight-speed automatic that is built into the house. In this case, no torque converter is installed, but the input clutch of most plates. Advantages according to Mazda: slim structure and low slope. In addition, the electric motor hybrid plug system directly inside infection integrated.

Mazda CX-60

The actual size of the CX-60 is not clear from the picture. At 4.75 meters high, it hits the competition.

Bigger than the competition from Audi, BMW and Mercedes

Visually, the CX-60 makes a good impression. The design is quiet, reminiscent of the United States SUV. The radiator grille stands fast in the wind and is decorated with a lot of chrome in the upper trim “Takumi”. Thin and laid out on the outside front light giving the CX-60 a fleshy appearance.

Dimensions at a glance:

● Height: 4745mm
● Width: 1890mm
● Height: 1670mm
● Wheel: 2870mm
● Stem: 570 liters to 1726

The passenger cell is set too far back, the overhangs are short. 18-inch wheels come as standard, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. No surprises in the back, the elevated back lights are divided into two, the back light shown is fake. A trend that still takes some getting used to after several years.

Up to 1726 liters of luggage is suitable for the trunk

More important than the tail pipes shown, however, is what is hidden behind the tailgate: 570 liters of luggage fits on the CX-60 trunk. If you reduce the rear seats (in a ratio of 40:20:40), you can load up to 1726 liters – here too Mazda is ahead of its German competitors. Unfortunately, plug drivers do not have to do without storage space, as a 17.8 kWh battery is installed at the bottom between the axles.

Lots of space in the Mazda CX-60

There is ample space in the front and rear, which is expected due to the 2.87 meter wheel. In the background, however, there is one point of criticism: the outer seats are very hard upholstered.

In high-tech “Takumi” there is always light skin. The choice of material and space is very good.

In the front row, on the other hand, there is almost a flair of luxury. High-quality “Takumi” equipment blows trumpets and light nappa leather and maple wood. Woven fabrics are said to resemble traditional kimonos, and the 12.3-inch infotainment display and digital instruments are common on board, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless.

Always high quality materials and light skin

If you do not like the light leather interior, you should go for the second top “Homura” accessories, which include black leather. The top model “Takumi” is always provided with a white interior.

“Driver Preferences Setting System” (only available for “Homura” and “Takumi”) is completely new. It uses surface recognition to automatically set and maintain the appropriate driving space for up to six different drivers. Unfortunately, we were not able to test the system at the time of submission, as it is currently in the final phase of testing.

18-inch rims are standard, 20-inch rims are available for extra charge (photo).

In theory, it should work like this: The new driver gets into the CX-60 and enters its height in the infotainment system. The car then uses the camera to detect all the necessary parameters and automatically adjust the seating position, steering wheel, mirror and headlights.

Now the driver can adjust the settings according to personal preferences and finally save them. The next time you log in, the CX-60 detects the driver through eye monitoring and restores the final saved settings.

This is how the CX-60 runs

We actually managed about 60 miles on the first attempt using electricity, quietly and gently. If the gasoline engine is overheated, 327 hp can be felt – if you keep your mind on it, it really goes faster. 2.5 liter sound pithy; automatically has trouble adjusting gears very quickly.
