Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv D: diesel revolution – Test by ANSA Motori

Mazda CX-60 is not only the first SUV, but a technological manifesto of what the Japanese brand is today, thanks to many solutions that emphasize its unique character, and the desire to evolve based on quality and innovation. We tested it in the e-Skyactiv D Homura RWD version, i.e. with “only” rear-wheel drive. Yes, because the CX-60 was born on a platform that includes the adoption of an engine placed in a longitudinal position and a rear-wheel drive, which, with another difference, can also be a wheel drive. Respectful architecture, used by high-volume products for high-end cars, and which Mazda has reinterpreted in its own way, using various solutions aimed at increasing its efficiency and enhancing its dynamics. First of all, however, you recognize Mazda for its style, for the evolution of Kodo’s design, which focuses on surfaces that look simple in proportion, only to discover complex games of light aimed at making them original, but always balanced in general. In its Sonic Silver version with black wheels and details of the same color on the bodywork, which replaces the chrome, it has a sporty accent that is harmless, while remaining an attractive car, as emphasized by the overall length of 4.74 meters. important length and width. The layout of the mechanics also affects the volume, with a long bonnet that protrudes and tends to move the passenger compartment area slightly back. Even the small front overhang, which contrasts with the more important rear, represents its uniqueness.

The interior, generous and spacious, in this version is characterized by black leather upholstery with different stitching, and by the face of the dashboard of the same color, but overlapping with silver elements. Simple in graphics, yet rich in available information, the digital instruments are always alert to draw the driver’s attention should they take their eyes off the road. In order to keep him focused on driving, the CX-60 uses a very large head-up display, allowing him to travel in good condition, perform a kind of magic, recognize him through the camera, and report the seat settings. , steering wheel and rear-view mirrors , and head-up displays, in previously stored parameters.
Obviously, there is a large 12.3-inch screen to control the infotainment system in cooperation with the main practical rotor. The images are elegant and bright and, thanks to the compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the connection with the smartphone happens easily and immediately. On the sample being tested, equipped with the Convenience and Sound Package, there is also an induction charging port, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system, for better sound. Also offered with the same package is a rear door with handfree opening, for easy access to the 570-litre luggage compartment with 5 people on board. Once started, the Mazda CX-60 is surprising despite its size, because it is agile when entering corners, stable, and communicative, thanks to its rear-wheel design, wishbone front end, and multi-link suspension. behind. Under the bonnet, the 3.3 turbodiesel 6-cylinder in-line engine with the 48 Volt hybrid system works with sophistication, which is unique for its modern technology. In fact, the shape of the crown of the piston, called Double Egg-Shape, allows it to increase the combustion through a system called Distribution Controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition, with a thermal efficiency of more than 40%. All this translates into brilliant performance and low fuel consumption, which, with a careful foot, allow an average of over 20 km / l. In any case, even when driving without thinking about mileage, 16 km / l is always guaranteed, and in a car with this engine capacity, it is an important result. Comfortable on the ride and communicative in the mix, the CX-60 uses Kinematic Posture Control, which breaks the inner brake of the rear wheel to emphasize cornering dynamics. In addition, it travels well through the 8-speed automatic transmission produced by Mazda, which uses a clutch instead of a torque converter, for more efficiency in gear changes, and for quick responses when a quick access to 450 Nm of level is required. up. torque. With the Driver Assistance Package, which is also available on the sample being tested, the driving aids include all systems compatible with the second level of autonomous driving. Therefore, the car breaks freely if it detects a moving obstacle during the reverse phase; at night the brightness of the light varies directly depending on the external visibility and the presence of other vehicles; and, with cruise control, it independently maintains the distance to the vehicle in front. There is also emergency braking with pedestrian detection, very important in the city. The cost of the CX-60 e-Skyactiv D, in the Homura RWD version, starts at more than 61,000 euros, while the model we tested, with full optional equipment, exceeds 66,000 euros. Competitive price considering the portion owned and the contents.
