The Mazda MX-5 is 35 years old (and counting!)

On February 9, 1989, Mazda surprised friend and foe alike with the world premiere of the Mazda MX-5. Where the British were lords and masters of the road section, it was Mazda that took over. Also because they were not fully awake while in England. Since its introduction, the Mazda MX-5 has proved to be a real hit. Even now, because after 35 years Mazda MX-5 ND can still command!

Lots of names, good luck

Mazda MX-5 has undoubtedly been given various updates, facelifts and versions in those 35 years. Mazda itself officially talks about generations NA, NB, NC and nowadays Mazda MX-5 ND. All these generations proved unsuccessful. Already in 2016, Mazda was able to report that the counter of 1 million units had been passed. At the same time, the counter has not stopped. The Mazda MX-5 has currently been sold 1,256,745 times! Although the car is sold all over the world, it does not have the same name everywhere. Here in Europe we actually use the name Mazda MX-5. However, in North America the car has a different name: Mazda Miata. Americans have a great saying when looking for a sports car: “Miata is Always the Answer”. In other words, the MX-5 is always the right answer. In Japan, this model is simply called Mazda Roadster (formerly Eunos Roadster).

Mazda gives a gift for his birthday

Usually the birthday boy or girl receives a gift, but not in this case. Mazda has released new updates for the 35th anniversary of the MX-5. There are new front and rear lights and a new infotainment system that should communicate more easily with the phone. There is also a new Track Mode. According to Mazda, this should take the driving experience to the next level through Kinematic Posture Control (KPC), which should provide additional stability in corners. A limited slip differential is now also standard, unfortunately only on the 184 hp version. The Mazda MX-5 2024 is still available as an advanced soft top and as RF, with a hard top. Prices start at €43,290 for the soft top and the MX-5 RF starts at €45,790. Naturally, our Belgian neighbors are cheaper, where prices start at €31,790 and €34,290.
