Mazda PH elevates the lineup with the 2024 Mazda CX-90

MAZDA Philippines has now officially introduced its flagship, the 2024 Mazda CX-90. As a follow-up to the CX-60 launched last June, the CX-90 is part of Mazda’s Big Product Group platform with its Skyactiv Scalable Architecture. So, this premium three-row SUV aims to compete with the likes of the Volvo XC90, Lexus RX, and BMW X5, but at a price point that’s on par with other flagship three-row SUVs like the Hyundai Palisade, Subaru Evoltis, and The upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser 250 (Prado).

From a styling perspective, the CX-90 continues the brand’s refined Kodo design language. Therefore, the sheet metal CX-90 is characterized by the lack of characteristic lines – focusing instead on smooth surfaces for its interplay of light and shadow. The front end features Mazda’s signature five-point grille that is flanked by dynamic LED matrix headlights with daytime running lights that penetrate the grille’s illumination. Equally striking LED taillights cut across the center of the tailgate to create a distinct identity at night.

Two variants of the CX-90 will be sold: AWD and AWD Exclusive. AWD is all-wheel drive. All variants share similar exterior features, such as 20-inch wheels, full LED headlights, and a hands-free power tailgate, to name a few. Where these two variants differ is in their external treatment. The base AWD features unpainted body covers, silver wheels, and mild chrome trim, while the AWD Exclusive comes with body-colored body covers, two-tone wheels, and an increased amount of chrome trim.

Inside, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 once again punches above its weight class in terms of luxury by offering high-end equipment and plenty of standard equipment. Those up front are greeted by heated and cooled power-adjustable front seats, a 12.3-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging, while the driver is treated to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. . cluster, a 10.4-inch head-up display with Driver Personalization System with facial recognition to save his preferred driving position and connect it to his face in the system.

Interior materials also differ between the two variants, with the AWD coming with black Nappa leather and silver interior trim, while the AWD Exclusive gets brown Nappa Leather and Leganu suede upholstery with gunmetal accents.

Interestingly, the third row CX-90 also varies by variant, although the specifications and features are the same. All variants come with two USB-C charging ports, their own air vents, as well as seating for three people in the AWD and seating for only two in the AWD Exclusive.

Like all other vehicles in the Large Product Group, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 comes with a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-6 gasoline engine that produces 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque. This is sent through a rear AWD system via a Mazda-designed eight-speed automatic with a multi-plate differential and torque converter. The power train is tied to a 48-volt micro-hybrid system that is located in the transmission itself.

As expected, the flagship 2024 Mazda CX-90 features the full i-Activsense suite of advanced driver assistance systems, ranging from front and rear city brake assist, blind spot warning, front and rear alert traffic, lane departure warning, lane. parking assist, and Mazda’s Radar Cruise Control with Cross Traffic Assist, although this switches off at 30km/h and doesn’t work in stop-and-go traffic. These are on top of the usual plethora of sensors as well as a 360-degree camera system.

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is the brand’s new flagship globally and in the Philippines, representing the momentum towards Mazda becoming a premium brand. As always with Mazda, a five-year free maintenance plan comes as standard, and if you’re forced to own a CX-90, the CX-90 AWD retails for P3.68 million while the CX-90 AWD Exclusive retails for P3. .78 million.
