Record profits at Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Friedrichshafen

Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Friedrichshafen recorded a profit of 470 million euros with its MTU brand for 2023. However, a few hundred jobs are expected to be lost.

Engine maker Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Friedrichshafen closed last year with a record profit for its MTU brand. This was announced when the annual balance sheet was presented on Friday. However, several hundred jobs are to be cut at the site.

“We had a very good year,” said Friedrichshafen CEO of Rolls-Royce Power System Jörg Stratmann. With a profit of 470 million euros, 2023 was the company’s best year yet. Large ship engines, power generation, trains and tanks are manufactured under the MTU brand. Stratmann also expects a further increase in profits this year.

Engine maker Rolls-Royce, which also includes Friedrichshafen-based Rolls-Royce Power Systems, has announced it will cut 2,500 jobs at its locations worldwide.

MTU supplies “Leopard 2” tank engines

According to CEO Stratmann, the expected orders for MTU tank engines, such as “Leopard 2”, have now arrived. For example, the federal government decided last year that Germany will supply Ukraine with 14 “Leopard 2 A6” battle tanks.

Success bonus for MTU employees

Despite the good results every year, work is being reduced on Lake Constance. The parent company Rolls-Royce announced this in London last year. How many positions will be announced later this year.

There is good news for the 6,000 MTU employees in Friedrichshafen: They receive a success bonus, which corresponds to 1,700 euros per part-time position.
