This is the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE PERFORMANCE

Mercedes-AMG has now presented the top model of the AMG GT Coupé range: the AMG GT 63 SE Performance with a system output of 600 kW / 816 HP. The variant accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The order will be placed in the 3rd quarter of 2024.

A unique distinguishing feature of the new top model of the two-door AMG GT series is the rear. What’s new here is an integrated plug-in loading panel with the model name highlighted in red. There are also two trapezoidal tail pieces drilled out. An “E PERFORMANCE” fender badge on the side characterizes the car. As usual, the hybrid rides on 20-inch wheels, optimized for AMG light-alloy wheels in a 10-spoke design. The measurements on the front axle are 295/35 R 20 on 10.5 J x 20 and on the rear axle 305/35 R 20 on 11.0 J x 20.

In the AMG GT 63 SE PERFORMANCE, the AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine and the AMG Electric Drive Unit together produce a system output of 600 kW (816 hp) and a maximum system torque of up to 1,420 Nm. The model accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.8 seconds. the maximum speed is 320 km / h.

The AMG GT 63 SE PERFORMANCE drive combines an AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine on the front axle and an electric drive unit on the rear axle. It combines a 150 kW (204 hp), permanent-excitation synchronous electric motor with a two-speed electric transmission and a limited-slip mechanical rear differential. The technology is the same as the SL Roadster. The electric motor also works on the rear axle, where the driving force can also drive the front axle as required – using a cardan shaft.

A 400-volt battery from AMG with direct cooling provides electric propulsion. For this purpose, 560 cells are individually cooled. The battery has a capacity of 6.1 kWh with a continuous output of 70 kW and 150 kW peak output. Charging is done using a 3.7 kWh on-board charger (AC) using alternating current. The electric range of the model (according to EAER) is 13 km, and the model is designed for high driving dynamics and efficiency. The battery is always in a temperature window of 45 degrees.

The eight AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programs “Electric”, “Battery Hold”, “Comfort”, “Smoothness”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “RACE”, and “Individual” are designed according to the new vehicle technology. They offer a wide range of driving experiences – from efficient to powerful. Driving programs change important parameters: the response of the car and the transmission, the driving behavior, the dirtiness of the chassis or the sound. Programs can be selected using the AMG button and central display in the center console or the AMG steering wheel buttons. The GT is introduced in “Quiet Mode” in the “Comfort” driving program. The driver’s readiness to drive is indicated via the “Ready” display and the typical AMG start-up sound (via the car’s speakers).

Four different recovery levels can be selected using the right AMG steering wheel button. This applies to all driving programs except “Smooth”. At a higher level, so-called “one pedal” driving is possible. More than 100 kW of power can be fed back into the battery. Another advantage of recovery: the car does not accelerate when driving fast downhill. The system works like an engine brake.

An active aerodynamic element, which is hidden in the lower part in front of the engine, contributes to the car’s easy driving behavior. It is standard on the top AMG GT model. This carbon profile is an exclusive AMG development and is protected by a patent. It reacts to the position of the AMG driving programs and extends directly downwards by almost 40 millimeters at a speed of 80 km / h. This creates the so-called Venturi effect, which additionally absorbs the car on the road and reduces the lift on the front axle.

Another functional feature is the extendable rear spoiler seamlessly integrated into the boot lid. It changes its position according to the driving conditions. The AMG aerodynamics team has modified the control software of the AMG GT 63 SE PERFORMANCE for high performance and adjusted many parameters. They include driving speed, longitudinal and lateral speed and driving speed in the calculation. Depending on the selected driving plan, the spoiler takes five new angular positions from 80 km/h to improve driving stability or reduce air resistance.

Also standard is the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with semi-active roll stabilization, as well as active rear axle steering.

In keeping with the extreme performance values and associated performance, an AMG high-performance ceramic brake system with 6-piston fixed calipers at the front and 1-piston floating calipers at the rear is used as standard. Compared to AMG models with a pure combustion engine, they are larger in size: the carbon ceramic brake discs on the front axle measure 420 x 40 millimeters and 380 x 32 millimeters on the rear axle. The braking system impresses with very short stopping distances as well as high stability and fade resistance under heavy use. It also scores with its long service life. Lightweight material saves extra weight and reduces unsprung mass.

The MBUX multimedia system receives many AMG displays and functions and a special hybrid. These include, among other things, displays about power flow, speed, power and torque and the temperature of the electrical machine.

One of the highlights of the interior are the electrically adjustable AMG sports seats. They combine good lateral support with superior long-distance comfort. Three massage programs ensure optimal long-distance comfort. This can be extended even further: The ENERGIZING Plus package combines seating elements with lighting conditions to create relaxing programs. The optional AMG performance seats with integrated headrests and ventilation openings in the seat backs are even sportier.

The large selection of seat covers reflects the range from comfort to performance oriented features. One- and two-tone nappa leather is included, as is MANUFAKTUR’s luxurious nappa trim with diamond quilting. The sporty side is emphasized by a combination of nappa leather and MICROCUT microfiber with contrasting topstitching in yellow or red.
