Mercedes-Benz is turning its attention to China


ROME (ITALPRESS) – At the Auto China 2024 event, Mercedes-Benz emphasizes its commitment to offer products and technologies offered to Chinese customers. As one of the largest automotive markets in the world, China plays an important role in Mercedes-Benz’s long-term strategy. Ahead of the Show, the company maintains its leadership position in this market, highlighted by the world premiere of the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class. China is home to the company’s largest production site and most comprehensive R&D center outside of Germany, playing a key role in Mercedes-Benz’s global R&D network. In recent years, Mercedes-Benz has strengthened its R&D commitment in China, especially in electrification and digital localization. In 2021, the company opened a new R&D Tech China Center in Beijing, with a modern testing laboratory, including E-drives, batteries, charging, NVH and more.

In 2022, Mercedes-Benz opened a new Research and Development Center in Shanghai, focusing on connectivity, autonomous driving and software and hardware development. Just this month, a new building with state-of-the-art equipment and software facilities will be added, designed to accelerate the internal development of modern digital innovation. In addition to the Research and Development Center, the current Design Center will continue to promote the digital direction in Mercedes-Benz projects.

Auto China 2024 will also be the stage for the world premiere of two new models. In fact, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance, the latest high-performance car from Mercedes-AMG, will debut under the spotlight of the Show and will be unveiled during a special AMG Brand Night Event in Shanghai during the Formula weekend 1, April 20.

Mercedes-Benz will present the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class which is scheduled to be unveiled on April 24 at the 798 Art District in Beijing. This off-road icon has been reimagined for the electric age, incorporating culture and advancements like never before. Visitors to Auto China 2024 will be able to see the all-new G 580 with EQ technology on the stand during the international press conference on April 25, alongside the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance. In addition, several new models will be presented to the Chinese market for the first time. The first is the CLA Concept Class. A show car based on the new MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture) platform and equipped with the new proprietary operating system MB.OS, which offers a closer look at the future family of electric vehicles. The R&D team here in China has been involved in the development of MB.OS from the beginning. As the ultimate enabler of highly personalized experiences, MB.OS will bring the best digital experience to local customers.

Additionally, the new Mercedes-Benz EQS debuts, further raising the bar for fully electric luxury sedans thanks to a series of updates.
