In the hotel, about a hundred birds are behind the fence with their phones at the ready. The weather is calm, but they are being watched closely by regular police. Periodically Mercedes-Benz EQEs pass. A few movies for them. But that’s not what they come for.
Today, Mercedes-Benz shares this hotel in Frankfurt with the soccer team FC Barcelona. And with the Thai royal family, but they seem to spend most of the year in Frankfurt. All in all, it’s a little hectic. Then our EQE 350+ runs. We sit behind the steering wheel and see the dashboard in a modern style, with a digital projection of the ‘real’ clock with dials and chrome edges. We don’t care if our predecessor put it that way, or if Mercedes’s PR department decided based on our digital booking that we will appreciate as we age. Anyway, let’s leave it at that. It will not be immediately a test of acceleration, because there is a lot of traffic in front of the hotel; the surrounding streets are somewhat broken. We join other sheep. While driving, it was already noticed that the car steered straight. It must be some kind of continuous power steering, but when we can finally drive the car after fifteen minutes of scrubbing, it doesn’t change. In a long corner, the EQE shows significant oversteer. It looks like there is a working steering assist. We get a button on the display to turn the thing off, after which the EQE rear drive gets predictable behavior again and you can send it through the bend well ‘on the gas’. Classic, let’s say.
