News: Mercedes-Benz is replacing the EQS for the 2024 model year

Thanks to the increased battery capacity from 108.4 to 118 kWh, the maximum range of the EQS 450 4MATIC (WLTP: combined energy consumption: 20.9-17.0 kWh/100 km) increases from 717 to 782 km. The EQS 450+ even breaks the 800 km mark with a range of 735 to 803 km. (WLTP: combined energy consumption: 19.9-16.3 kWh/100 km;). The EQS 350 (WLTP: combined energy consumption: 16.5 -19.4 kWh/100 km) has also been added to the range. The entry-level model has a range of 642 to 683 km.

Mercedes-Benz has increased the towing capacity of the EQS and EQE Limousine with 4MATIC from 750 to 1,700 kg. This means that they reach a level comparable to SUVs. Customers can now also pull a horse trailer, for example.

Another technical measure: Due to the high level of recovery in daily use, brake discs are used less often than models of combustion engines. From now on, the brake system is managed by a special function that directly emphasizes the cleanliness of the brake against the disc on a regular basis.

New grill

The hallmark of Mercedes-EQ models is a deep black grille (Black Panel), which connects to the headlights. Designers have now refined this particular look for the EQS: the headlight is fitted with a new grille with chrome use as usual in the Electric Art Line. The chrome and recessed panels contrast with the deep black surround. This grille is combined with a standing star on the hood and unites the EQ look with the Mercedes-Benz logo.

The air vents on the B-pillars now have chrome-plated trim. The additional cushion in the back has nappa leather piping.

Back comfort

EQS models with the optional comfort package and executive rear seats now have a special angled footrest on the right. This is placed between the front seat rails and increases comfort for rear passengers.

Also new in this package is a front passenger seat that folds forward and a rear seatback that can be adjusted up to 38 degrees. This provides more space. The optional package also includes seat heating as well as neck and back shoulder heating as well as pneumatically adjustable seat depth. An illuminated trim element is integrated behind the front seats.

The rear seat package has been common for some time. The angle of the backrest can be adjusted from 27 to 36 degrees at the touch of a button. The appearance of the upholstery layer of the chair emphasizes the individual character of the chair. The back with thick padding and upholstery separated from the side pillars promises more sitting comfort.

Automatic route change

With the “automatic lane change” function, Mercedes-Benz now also offers further development of driving assistance systems in the field of SAE Level 2 in Europe Automatic lane change is supported on structurally separated two-lane roads with a limit of speed of 140 km / h. This function is factory installed in EQS from model year 2024.

Automatic lane change is part of the DISTRONIC distance assistant and active assistant. If there is a slow vehicle in front, the car can initiate a lane change by itself within a speed range of 80 to 140 km/h. If the radar detects enough space and the lane markings are detected, the car can automatically overtake the slower car in front. Requirements: it must be a highway with at least two lanes with a speed limit and the vehicle must have MBUX navigation. The system requires no further action from the driver to make automatic lane changes. The responsibility of driving remains with the driver.

Therefore, route changes must be monitored at all times. Mercedes-Benz already offers automatic transmission for some model series in the US and Canada.
