Additional driving mode with vertical star for Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is about to be refreshed. The nose of the Mercedes electric flag was modified.

Mercedes always offered slightly different designs for its EVs, most notably the teardrop shape that flowed from the form-follows-performance principle to its plug-in vehicles. Now Mercedes seems to be returning to the design of its fuel cars. The new EQS gets a new grille with chrome applications. This grille is combined with a standing star on the hood, which has long been characteristic of top models from Stuttgart.

The freedom of EQS was also increased. Thanks to the increased battery capacity from 108.4 to 118 kWh, the maximum range of the EQS 450 4MATIC has increased from 717 to 799 km. The EQS 450+ even breaks the 800 km barrier with a range of 683-822 km. The EQS 350 has also been added to the model range, the entry-level model has a range of 642-683 km. Another technical measure: Due to the high level of recovery in daily use, brake discs are used less often than models of combustion engines. From now on, the brake system is managed by a special function that directly emphasizes the cleanliness of the brake against the disc on a regular basis.

Change of route

With the “automatic lane change” function, Mercedes-Benz now also offers the most intelligent development of driving assistance systems in the field of SAE Level 2 in Europe.(3). Direct lane changes are supported on highways with two structurally separated lanes with a speed limit of 140 km/h. This function is factory installed in EQS from model year 2024.

Automatic lane change is part of the DISTRONIC distance assistant and active assistant. If there is a slow vehicle in front, the car can initiate a lane change by itself within a speed range of 80 to 140 km/h. If the radar detects enough space and lane markings are recognized, the car can automatically overtake a slower car in front. Requirements: must have a highway with at least two lanes with a speed limit and the vehicle must have MBUX navigation. The system requires no further input from the driver to make automatic lane changes. The responsibility of driving remains with the driver.
