Mercedes has started a recall campaign for its GLE and GLS models. The reason is a bad screw connection, which can cause a fire hazard.

In the world of the automotive industry, recalls are a common occurrence: they are designed to eliminate potential safety risks that may occur during vehicle production. Just recently Mercedes had to recall about 530,000 vehicles because driving in affected vehicles may fail. Shortly before, the Stuttgart company had ordered 75,000 cars to the workshop because of the fire hazard. Now the Swabian carmaker has to recall more than 340,000 cars again – there is a risk of fire here too.

Mercedes is recalling the GLE and GLS models: around 341,000 vehicles affected worldwide

In this case it has Mercedes launched a recall campaign for its GLE and GLS models. According to the recall database, the affected vehicles are from Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) from the years 2017 to 2023. 340,956 vehicles worldwide are affected by this recall, of which 11,201 are probably in Germany. The KBA recall number for the recall is “013687” and the recall manufacturer code is “9190101”.

Mercedes recalls: Fire hazard due to faulty cable screw connection

The reason for calling is great KBA a faulty screw connection of the cable lug on the lower 48V section under the passenger seat, which may come loose during the assembly process and therefore represents a fire hazard. To date, there are no known incidents involving property damage or personal injury. The manufacturer’s calibration specification states that the screw connection of the lower part is checked and corrected if necessary.

It is important to emphasize that the recall letter to the car owner is not a proposal, but a mandatory request. If the owner does not comply with this request, the car may be immobilized. Mercedes has set up a hotline on 00800 12 777 777 where owners of affected vehicles can report.
