Lexus is launching the LBX to expand its customer base

With the sale of LBX, Lexus uses a strategy contrary to that of its main competitors in the payment segment. In fact, the brand is expanding its scope downwards, while companies such as Audi and Mercedes have announced that they will not renew several entry-level models. Lexus wants to use this opportunity to leave to attract a younger and more diverse customer base. The target is defined mainly among the owners of Audi Q2, DS3 Crossback, or even Mini Countryman. « We are also targeting owners of general brand designs. Thanks to our financing offer, we will be competitive with well-equipped GP offers », explain Martin Millot, director of marketing and communications for Lexus France. So the monthly rent should start at 350 euros, which puts the LBX at the level of high-end cars like the Peugeot 2008 and the Renault Captur. « LBX should allow us to attract more women, younger and more connected customers », he adds. « In the B-SUV segment, about 53 % of sales are made to women, which we should benefit from at LBX », continues the marketing director. « We should be in the 65 to 70 win range % on LBX », summary Xavier Rivadirector of Lexus France.

Objective of 3,000 units in 2024

The LBX should take over from Lexus in Europe and France. Designed for these markets, the model remains assembled in Japan. From this year 2024, the small crossover should represent a third of the brand’s sales in the region. « We aim for 3 000 sales this year and we already have 1 080 instructions, especially thanks to the excellent open days », He sees Xavier Riva. The manufacturer is still discreet about the figures obtained at this event but the LBX may even exceed the set target. One step closer to reaching 8,000 sales in 2025 for the entire brand. To reach this number, Lexus is relying on the updated lineup over the past two years, with the NX, UX 250h, the redesigned RX, LM, RZ and UX 300e.

The brand has chosen to keep the four-wheel drive version for the French market, even if it is the last one « should represent 5 % of sales, but it is important in certain areas », to justify the leader.
