An iconic Rolls-Royce owned by legendary actor Michael Caine has sold for a staggering £195,000 ($248,000) at an auction held in Bristol, England.
The vintage Silver Shadow 1969 model, purchased by the actor in 1971, was part of an auction of cars, motorcycles and automobilia held by Bonhams.
The Rolls-Royce was purchased by Caine during the height of his success in the late Sixties and early Seventies, when he starred in a string of classic films, including The Italian Job, Get Carter, and Alfie.
The car, which has been kept in excellent condition, was sold to an anonymous buyer, who bid over the phone.
The Silver Shadow model was introduced in 1965 and was the first Rolls-Royce to employ unitary construction, as well as disc brakes, as opposed to the drum brakes used on earlier models.
The car sold at the auction was powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine, which produced a maximum power output of about 200bhp. It was fitted with a four-speed automatic transmission and was capable of reaching a top speed of 125mph.
The interior of the car was finished in classic black leather, with a wooden trim. Other features included electric windows, air conditioning, an AM/FM radio, and a power steering wheel.
The car, which had been owned by Caine for almost fifty years, had been estimated to fetch up to £140,000 ($180,000) prior to the auction. However, the ultimate sale price was almost £55,000 ($71,000) higher than expected.
Commenting on the sale, Bonhams motoring specialist, James Knight, said: “I am delighted to have achieved such a remarkable result for this iconic Rolls-Royce. The car’s provenance and excellent condition was reflected in the price achieved.”
