System 1 | McLaren F1: Norris has the best ‘absorbing potential’ in 2024

Andrea Stella is happy to see Lando Norris working on his flaws in qualifying. The McLaren F1 driver made several mistakes last year in crucial situations, such as in Qatar where he missed the Sprint pole position after a mistake, when he could have ended up leading ahead of Oscar Piastri, who won the Sprint in question.

“I think what Lando has done this year is that he has been able to use many points and opportunities that we recognized last year. D” Stella explained. “For example, one of them is the qualifying performance.”

“How do you put together good laps in qualifying? Last year he was fast, but we had a couple of situations, like Qatar, where he could have been in a good position and where his two laps in Q3 were cancelled. There were a lot of factors to eliminate this situation and others .

“So he’s done a really good job of working out the opportunities with his engineers and factory support. And making small adjustments to be able to use the car’s potential to a greater extent. So credit to him.”

The Italian also praises his driver’s progress in race management, particularly in understanding the tyres. According to him, this is part of the development in the broader sense that Norris records.

“And I think in racing, Lando seems to be getting more and more and more and more and more understanding what happens to the tires, which tires lose performance, how long these tires can last. “It’s what we call normal. racing machine, it’s getting bigger and more precise.”
