Adrian Huertas: Without money and vitamin B in the SSP World Cup / Supersport World Cup

Spain is a kind of promised land for motorcycle racers, but a successful career is not a given. Good relations and dowries always help in getting a place in a complete team. If you don’t have that, you have to earn points for your talent and hard work.

Like Adrian Huertas. He couldn’t buy his way into the team. At just 20 years old, the Spaniard has already come a long way. His breakthrough came when he entered the Supersport 300 World Championship in 2020. As a rookie, the then Yamaha rider impressed so much that he was signed by the successful Belgian team MTM Kawasaki. With six wins and eight podiums, Huertas won the junior championship series in his first year.

“I come from a simple family in Madrid and I could not take the easy way. My family did not have the means or the sponsors to enable me to take such a step,” Huertas told todocircuito. “It was only with the help of scholarships that I was able to advance in championships like the Cuna de Campeones or the Red Bull Rookies Cup and get to where I am now. I always had to work a little harder than other drivers. My parents always told me that I should enjoy winning in the race or fighting for the win. Once that’s gone, I lose my time. I always had this motivation to win the race. That’s what keeps me going.”

After two years with Kawasaki in the Supersport World Championship, Aruba.it Ducati became aware of Huertas, who was looking for a successor to the SSP world champion, Nicolò Bulega, who was moving up to the Superbike category. Huertas would also like to use this method.

“I don’t want to think about that yet. If I do my job well, it’s a logical step,” smiled the Ducati rider. “I just want to win the World Cup and from now on we’ll see if Álvaro wants to continue for a few more years or retire.”

After two meetings, Huertas is only in 5th place, which is due to two crashes. In the second race at Phillip Island he finished third on the podium, and in the first race in Barcelona Huertas took his first Supersport win.
