Hyundai i10 N Line, my likes and dislikes | My test

If until last year it was not difficult to buy a compact car with a sporty spirit, in the last few months the situation on the Italian scene has changed a lot. Classics sportivette which has defeated the youth and enthusiasts they are basically gone giving more priority to hybrid, electric solutions and in general all those solutions with the ability to pollute less.

Also in the house of Hyundai there was one take off fast one of the most sportsmen in the “N” category; chronologically we’ve seen the departure of the Kona N, the successor to the i30 N sedan, and now it’s likely that the more compact i20 N will follow change of route and a strategy focused exclusively on electric vehicles, such as brand new Ioniq 5 N which promises record-breaking performance along with a sporty soul.

Are we really faced with saying goodbye to petrol cars? Probably, most likely it will be so, but in order to still give A bit of fun for the more nostalgic Hyundai still offers“N Line” layout. which will be able to add a little “pepper” to the more urban offerings. There Compact i10 N Line is proof of this to live and, in this descent of precision, inherit happiness 100 horsepower turbo engine (weighing about one ton).

Let me show right away that this is a set up and it’s not a complete sports version, but apart from this, the i10 N Line was a car that really surprised me, with its level of power and its driving dynamics.

What I like

Hyundai i10, with its large compact sizeit fits perfectly in the A section but despite this feature it is surprising with its own the ability to stay with the load. Despite its shape, at 3.6 meters long and 1.68 meters wide, the i10 is capable of comfortably four adults and produce 252 liters of trunk. This is not the absolute value of the record, but equally an aspect that should not be ignored.

The trunk access threshold has a small step, but it also provides an attractive solution for children emergency positions: Below it is a trap door equipped with emergency equipment, a feature that can be useful in a critical situation.

Moving into the trunk, we see a common mark and with sufficient light, with respectable light and hooks necessary for preparing the transported items. However, removal of the package shelf, although simple, is limited by the lack of automatic lifting brackets, a detail that can be improved to increase practicality. Regarding the configuration of the rear seats, it is possible to fold them down in the 40:60 mode, however creating a small step in the loading floor. In general, the rear seats provide good accommodation for a person of average height, ensuring head, knee and leg room, ensuring a comfortable ride even for passengers sitting in the back seat.

The Hyundai i10 looks like asolid and well built car, with hard plastics but high-quality assemblies that give a sense of stability. There The N Line version adds a touch of sportiness which translates into a sporty shift knob, red contrast stitching, stylish detailing and a double back.

The red trim, present on the three-spoke steering wheel and on the air vents, also add a touch of personality and change to the passenger compartment. Although the dashboard plastics are hard, they are designed with a pleasing texture that gives the cockpit a premium feel. The climate control system, with well-placed physical knobs, is surrounded by an area with USB and USB-C sockets, ideal for charging devices or connecting your smartphone. Android Auto and CarPlay are wireless almost as custom, allowing quick use without cables.

Finally, the entire propulsion system, the heart of this i10 N Line, is also valid, although I will explain this aspect in more detail in a separate paragraph.

What I don’t like

Although it is a car of things, they are there some minor details which if improved can make a difference quickly. For example, as mentioned, straps holding the hat box always need manual action when lowering something in the trunk.

It also does not exist lights with respect in the sun visorertogether with Handles the ceiling light. Perhaps the most “controversial” feature is the absence of a induction charging system which can balance the use of wireless mirroring systems that eat up battery.

Maybe an outdoor lighting system, which currently includes a a combination of halogen and LED lights.

How is it going?

The Hyundai i10 N Line presents itself as aautomatically, ideal for city use but can provide driving pleasure even on the roughest roads. This success is due to three important factors: low weight, manual gearbox (unfortunately with only 5 speeds) and turbo engine (three cylinders), which work together to provide a satisfying driving experience.

Il turbo engine with 100 HP and 172 Nm provides one push hard directly from low revs and linear continuity, characteristics that ensure a smooth driving and no more lag. The background sound of the engine, enhanced by the twin exhausts, further contributes to the engaging driving experience (a feature now rarely found).

Il low weight of the car allows impressive performances, with a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in more than 10 seconds and a powerful traction that is surprisingly good. The small i10 is responsive, quick and the well-designed chassis ensures correct trajectories and driving pleasure even in curves.

As for consumption, Hyundai i10 N Line reaches impressive values: more than 20 km / l in the city, about 19 km / l on extra urban roads and about 13.5 km / l on the highway, proving its efficiency also in terms of consumption. There is no hybrid available, the only system available is S&S which reduces consumption at traffic lights. With a complete? It’s not difficult more than 600 kmnot bad really!

The security system is known which, in addition to being very complete, is also comprehensive ADAS and second level guidance. There is no cruise control, but it is possible to enter the following lane with assistance that follows the progress of the road.

Who should buy?

The Hyundai i10 1.0 T-GDI N line is available in the market with a starting price of 19,050 eurosa figure that might be useful for a city car, but what is it in part it is justified by the usual equipment of the rich. Among the included features we find manual climate control, a multimedia system with an 8-inch screen, compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and various functions that can be controlled from a special application on the phone, such as remote door opening.

The The safety equipment is amazing by category, including anti-drowsy warnings, lane keeping assist and an automatic emergency braking system capable of detecting pedestrians and cyclists. Among optional available is the navigator, offered at an additional cost of 1,300 euros, which also includes a rear camera and Bluelink telematics services. For 450 euros, however, a contract roof is an option. The color the base is Mangroove Green, to get the one in the picture (Luman Gray) you need an extra 700 euros.

The final price may not be accessible to everyone, especially for a car in this segment, but until now there are no (new) solutions that can offer the same features and dimensions. If you are not interested in 100 horse power and in the configuration of N Line, we remember the presence of gasoline and LPG versions (power 65 and 67 respectively) of the Connect Line and Prime trim levels (the price being several thousand euros lower).
