The new series with the actors of ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘White Lotus’ has not got good results: “no kind of fun”

In 2021, Liane Moriarty wrote the book Apples Don’t Fall. The author is better known Big Little Lie. The book was later adapted into an HBO series starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Adam Scott and Zoë Kravitz.

Guavas Don’t Fall had all the ingredients to be the next big series, as the story is exciting and fast-paced: after their mother disappears, four children must forget everything they thought they knew about their parents if they want to see her again.

The series also has a great cast, including Sam Neill from Jurassic park. Multiple Academy Award winner Annette Bening plays Joy Delaney, a lost mother. His son is played by Jake Lacy, who is better known as Peter Miller from Office or when Shane Patton is out White Lotus.

Inspection

Despite the strong story and good acting Apples Don’t Fall it has not been well received. The series has a score of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of writing). Chief critic Judy Berman of TIME Magazine writes that the series “no joy of any kind” he gives.

Critic Kelly Lawler of USA Today shares Berman’s sentiments: “It frustrates you more than it makes you angry”. Randy Myers of the San Jose Mercury News is also not a fan: “(…) there are so many impossible moments that you feel like you’ve been robbed of your time.”
