Free dental, vision and health care clinic being held this Sunday in Cadillac | Information

CADILLAC — Organizers of a free clinic offering several dental, vision and health services are gearing up for this Sunday, when the event will be held in the Northview Adventist School gymnasium in Cadillac.

The organizer of the event Dr. Cara Brinzieu said several people have come forward to help with the event. He said they expect to be able to serve between 150 and 200 people.

“We have a lot of volunteers,†Brinzieu said. “We really feel that the community is behind us.â€

Before 2020, Brinzieu said the event attracted people from around the area, packing into the church and in later years the Wexford Civic Centre.

The event was canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic but now that the pandemic is over, Brinzieu said they decided to bring back the clinic.

For this year’s event, the church is partnering with the AMEN Open Clinic to provide professional services to all who come, with a special emphasis on those who are most in need.

During the clinic, a number of dental services will be provided free of charge, including fillings, extractions and cleanings. They will also be offering eye services, including eye exams and prescription glasses made in the lab and sent to patients within two weeks.

In addition, Brinzieu said they will be offering basic medical screenings, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. He said they will also be providing physical therapy consultations.

While they don’t want to turn anyone away, Brinzieu said they will be limited by the number of professionals who are volunteering their time.

“The only limitation in this dangerous clinic is the licensed ophthalmologists and dentists,†event organizer Tom Mejeur previously told Cadillac News. “Cadillac AMEN Free Clinic will provide equipment, malpractice insurance and continuing education loans to volunteer professionals.â€

Brinzieu said while they have plenty of volunteers at this time, they are still looking for additional dental and vision specialists.

Professionals who want to help can register for the event amenfreeclinic.org.

The clinic opens at 7 a.m. and those who want to be served should arrive as close to that time as possible, or even earlier, Brinzieu said.

There will be translators to help Spanish-speaking patients, Brinzieu said.
