Mitsubishi Outlander (2024), first contact: before its return, what do we already know?

Expected in Europe at the end of 2024, Mitsubishi Outlander will sign its back on our roads with the fourth generation, after almost three years of absence. As a reminder, production of the previous Outlander ceased in 2021, leaving the Mitsubishi range reduced, in France at least, by Space Star and Eclipse Cross (Colt and ASX, clones of Renault Clio and Captur, have expanded the list since then).

The new Outlander isn’t new, really: he has already been driving for a while in North America where his career began at the end of 2021. If the European versions will undergo some modifications along the way, we already know the broad overview from a technical point of view. (the CMF-CD platform from the Renault – Nissan Alliance makes it almost a distant cousin of the Espace and X-Trail), and the style should change very little. Larger, with an extra dose of chrome at the front, the look has become American … the silhouette becomes more angular, still very classic. There are no major revolutions when entering the board (apart from the arrival of the third row), where the presentation remains normal and practical: still real physical control, including the ways of driving and vehicle management.

Like its predecessor, the Outlander will only be available here as a hybrid PHEV (necessary to hope for a place, at least). A hot spot is always guaranteed by a large 2.4 l 4-cylinder naturally aspirated (about 135 hp), associated with two electric motors. (one per axle, respectively 116 and 136 hp front / rear). Combined power, around 240 hp on US versions, should change little when crossing the Atlantic. On the other hand, the 20 kWh battery in the last battery could make way for a slightly larger battery, allowing a declared autonomy of around 100 kilometers in all-electric mode. To be confirmed, obviously. First glimpse on video, on the ice… It’s very good at moving around its 2.1 tons.
