Marc Marquez will aim to win his ninth world title with the Ducati factory team in 2025. He has all the tools for it, but Pecco Bagnaia should take the lead – at least initially.
In 2024, Marc Marquez had a great MotoGP season with Gresini Ducati – he won three Grand Prix and one race and came third in the overall standings. However, his goal was to win another title with the factory team. “When you come out of a difficult situation, of course you have to have a strategy for the future, and that’s what I planned in 2023 when I made the decision to go to Gresini,” said Marquez in an interview with his sponsor Estrella. Galicia 0, 0. “Everything that came after that was the result of good results in the race. Although I did not win the title this year, I won a lot more on a personal and professional level. I found myself again, I was able to expand my sports career and I was not worried whether to continue or not. It’s unthinkable at the moment, but in the situation I found myself in, I toyed with the idea.”
In 2025, the 31-year-old will find the best conditions in the Ducati factory team to win his ninth world title – seventh in MotoGP. “I’m in the best team and the best bike, and my future teammate has won the championship twice. This year he fought with Jorge Martin until the last race and lost the World Championship by ten points. I have all the tools for the championship fight, everything is now in hand my son,” says Marquez.
At the test in Barcelona, Marquez drove the GP25 for the first time. He also had the opportunity to get to know the team and how the factory team works. “You start to understand why Ducati is at this level. On Wednesday morning after the test I already had a call about the direction we were going. This is something new for me,” said the eight-time world champion. About his new teammate Pecco Bagnaia, he said: “It’s a situation I’ve never experienced before – to get to the box and the person who has the chance to lead is someone else. It is Pecco because he gave Ducati two world championship titles and won eleven races last year. Logically he must be the leader in the pre-season and in the first race.”
With Gigi Dall’Igna he will have one of the most creative minds in MotoGP by his side. Is the Italian the best engineer for Marquez? “Gigi Dall’Igna is the best leader for me. There are many good engineers. There will be those who are better than him and others who are worse than him. But in the end you have to be a leader because you also have to lead a group of people,” said the Spaniard.
