From cool to luxurious – the new full hybrid SUV from Lexus

With the smallest model from the luxury brand Lexus to date, the Japanese manufacturer sets new standards for sophistication. This also applies to the full hybrid car and interior.

Reshaping the luxury car market and reimagining and developing concepts – that has been Lexus’ belief since it was founded 35 years ago. This also applies to the Lexus LBX, whose appearance and technology have been changed in the spirit of the times. A full hybrid drive, including a more powerful battery, offers power and range, but the Lexus Breakthrough Crossover – the full name of the model – is the smallest model of the successful Japanese brand to date. Classic Lexus attributes such as the luxurious craftsmanship with which the car is built, the attention to detail, the uncompromising quality and hospitality of Omotenashi are still unmistakable.

Modern look and good design

The Lexus LBX is offered in four trims. The range ranges from LBX Relax and LBX Emotion to LBX Cool and LBX Elegant. All four cars have a 1.5-litre VVT-iE petrol engine with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission. What all variants have in common is a modern design, starting with the redesigned radiator grille, which identifies the LBX as a Lexus at first. The grill, inspired by the classic “Diabolo” grill, has also been improved aerodynamically and now ensures equal airflow over and around the car. Roof spoilers contribute to the efficiency, stability and direct driving characteristics of the LBX.

The focus of the modern design is mainly a separate radiator grille. Offered

The hood is lowered, which makes the full hybrid look more attractive and improves the driver’s view. The entire front design, including the futuristic-looking headlights, gives the LBX a confident look. The recesses on the sides of the body give the SUV a strong dose of elegance, and the sloping rear emphasizes its sporty character.

A new hybrid system

The new generation of self-charging hybrid system sets the standards. The transmission and power management of the 1.5-liter VVT-iE gasoline engine underwent extensive revisions: efficiency was improved, losses were reduced, weight was saved and size was reduced. The bipolar nickel-metal hybrid battery ensures low resistance and high performance, which in addition supports acceleration thanks to the electric motor. The maximum output of the full hybrid system is 100 kW or 136 hp. The auto-recharge system automatically recharges the battery every time the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal.

The man in the middle

Testing is a goal – which was already clear in the LBX design phase. Lexus offers a variety of basic systems and fully integrated digital services that make every journey more enjoyable, convenient and safer. The Tazuna concept is also used in the LBX, with the most important controls and information sources arranged around the driver. It is complemented by a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument display that can be adjusted according to individual needs. Header display is available as an option.

Of course, the LBX is equipped with the latest generation of the Lexus Safety System+ with its comprehensive safety functions and driver assistance. Accident risks are identified directly, show the driver and, if an accident occurs, intervene by direct driving, breaking or controlling the vehicle’s power. This can prevent or at least reduce collisions. Also important is the pre-accident safety system with intersection assistant, adaptive cruise control, lane guidance and lane keeping assistant and traffic sign recognition. Driver monitor, smart parking sensors with automatic brake intervention, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and blind spot assistant round out the safety package.

Glory and inner modern values

The interior of the Lexus LBX uses high-quality materials and the interior is stylish (there are also a number of “luxury extras” available). The central control panel and 9.8-inch touchscreen are located in the center console. Different storage options and USB ports are important details. The “Lexus Link Connect” media system – including a premium surround sound system – ensures cloud-based navigation and can also be operated with the “Hey Lexus” audio assistant. An optional digital key (suitable for Android and Apple phones), which allows unlocking and start using the smartphone, provides additional convenience.

All the features, intelligent design and excellent hybrid drive make the “small” Lexus big on the road. Luxury meets the confident looks of an SUV and a modern car – the Lexus LBX combines the best of both worlds – now Test drive Plan and test all the features yourself!
