Montreal Auto Show | Buick

The study of the Wildcat concept revealed last year at the Montreal Auto Show was hiding something. Instead of creating a freestyle exercise, the wildcat actually featured the brand’s new aesthetic signature and three shields. Numbers for this are already available on some products of this American brand, including Envista.

Presented as a Canadian preview in the city, the Envista is the ticket to enter Buick’s lineup. This “faux-real” utility (only the front wheels drive it) takes on several features found on the Wildcat. Among the most noticeable: headlights with a boomerang-like profile, a downward-swept grille and a widened hood with arched sides. These three elements create a strong visual identity and will eventually be found on all products of this manufacturer. Chrome plays an important role in decorating this bodywork, but without excess. To prove this, Buick has today ditched the nickel-plated circle that traditionally housed the three shields (now modified), the brand’s hallmark since 1959.

But let’s get back to the Envista, which Buick presents to us as an “urban SUV.” However, its slim silhouette leads us to believe that it may also appeal to buyers who are tired of utility vehicles. Designed in the USA, manufactured in South Korea, the Envista derives, technically, from the Encore GX. To reduce costs (this model is available for less than $ 30,000), the interior furniture is completely taken from the Encore GX. Is that to say? A redesigned instrument cluster, an oversized central screen (11 inches) and a flat steering wheel in its lower part. Pieces, materials and textures vary depending on the variation chosen. There are three: Preferred, ST and Avenir.

Additionally, Buick is expected to present its first electric car in the coming weeks, which could be sold under the Electra prefix. Several observers expect this new model to be a derivative of the Electra E5 currently distributed in China. Buick will also introduce the third generation Enclave to the market. This would be the last Buick with an internal combustion engine.
