finally more horses and emotions!

The Born is still unchanged, but Cupra has decided to unveil a new version of the VZ. This is more powerful and more agile. At least on paper.

Cupra has launched the Born VZ, a new version of its electric sedan. This features some performance improvements and chassis improvements. Everything is aimed at improving sports skills. In addition, the Spanish company offers new technology in the cabin of this 100% electric model. The Cupra Born VZ has a rear-mounted electric motor. It is more powerful and develops 326 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque. This represents an increase of 95 horses and 235 Nm compared to the Born e-Boost. Cupra claims that the VZ version is able to go from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km / h. That is second fastest than the other version with a speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

Cupra claims that improved performance doesn’t come at the expense of fuel efficiency. Thus, the battery went from 77 kWh to 79 kWh and gives range of up to 570 km before having to recharge. The battery is compatible with a fast charge of up to 170 kW, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

More power and more games

So the extra power is attributed to the special chassis configuration for the VZ models. The DCC Sport suspension benefits from new shock absorbers and springs, along with new anti-roll bars. Cupra engineers have also changed the steering wheel for better feel, as has the braking system. A similar upgrade to the powertrain and chassis it will most likely be used in the upcoming Volkswagen ID.3 GTX sports car… Or GTI! Note that Born is not far from the mid-career fixation. It’s hard to say why this new version of VZ is still based on the current generation of Birth. However, visual changes compared to the base versions are limited to a new design of 20-inch rims with the inclusion of bronze (or optional forged rims).

There are also unique shades of Dark Forest and Dark Midnight, with elements painted black. Finally, the VZ logo appears on the tailgate.

Birth becomes more techno’

Inside, the Cupra Born VZ takes the biggest screen of the system infotainment. Indeed, the 12.9-inch digital panel borrowed from the revised Volkswagen ID.3 is visible. It also gets more advanced lighting and paddles behind the steering wheel to control the braking force. It also comes standard with bucket seats as standard Guardian VZ5 and Leon Cup V. Alternatively, this Born VZ also has an optional sunroof and a 425-watt, 10-speaker sound system from Sennheiser.

Finally, safety equipment has been upgraded with the latest ADAS, including Remote Park Assist. The market launch of the Cupra Born VZ is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024. Prices will be announced later in the year. It’s enough to make us think that the Born will have to wait until 2025 to arrive in a modified version.
