The Mazda MX-5 Cup begins an exciting new season during the Spring race – Autosport.nu

The most spectacular one-off cup in the Benelux, the Betcity Mazda MX-5 Cup, will kick off the new motorsport season this weekend during the Spring Race. The Zandvoort circuit is the venue for the first race of the year.

V-Max Racing Organizer has been working with the Mazda MX-5 Cup since 2019. A class where people fight door to door and the drivers have to make a difference. This coming season also promises to be an interesting year, with six events in Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps, Zolder and Assen.

Multiple champion Marcel Dekker will also be there this year. He wants a battle in a green car, which can often decide in his favor, due to his championship. Last season he had to give up the championship to Sam Jongejan, but Dekker wants to regain this title.

Last season, Daan and Timo de Graaff played for the first time in the class. The brothers boarded the Betcity outfit. Timo took several victories and will again be one of the favorites this year. There will definitely be concerns. Daan also has aspirations to climb the highest stage of the platform.

Leon van Verseveld had a learning year in 2023. The young rider was quick in every event and even competed with his teammate Marcel Dekker. It is expected that he will be a permanent candidate for honorable mentions this year.

Lars van ‘t Veer, who is entering his third season, took a good podium last year. He is also going for honorable mentions this year. It is expected that he will report forward more often. It will also stand out this year, especially with its eye-catching color scheme.

Filip Wojtowicz will be able to score well from Belgium. Although still young, he has a lot of experience. Delano De Ketele is also back this season. Fast Flemish and Speelworld Mazda wants to take action and report forward more often.

Maikel Schilders is at it again this year. Last season he learned how to drive a Mazda MX-5. It’s not the easiest race car and in 2024 he hopes to reap the rewards of his efforts.

There is also new blood for the next season. Flemish Leon Iserbyt, among others, will participate in the class during the Spring race in Zandvoort, as will Leon Akkerman.

New this year is that the class will complete three races during the weekend. This creates more spectacle.
