At Spaulding High School in Barre, USA, Moroccan students have been constantly harassed. This tension soon escalated into a conflict. The local authorities, aware of the seriousness of the situation, have opened an investigation into the matter.
On Wednesday, a fight broke out between students on Ayers Street, near Spaulding High School. The youths were filmed fighting with fists. They all ran away when the police arrived. The basis of this conflict is frequent threats within the school. “I don’t understand why this is happening. He’s my brother. He’s a normal human being,” Ahmed Yachfine, a Moroccan Spaulding student, told the website. Wcax. He confirms that he and his brother Rayane fought with another group of youths.

“When they came in, Rayane’s eye was completely swollen and her neck was a little bit too, but gradually it got worse. […] They brought 11 or 12 students together to attack my children,” Angela Yachfine, their mother said. Braedon Vail, Barre Police Chief, confirms: “There was violence all day and one of the perpetrators tried to attract and organize this event. That continued at the end of the day, after school, when the students went home.”

Ahmed and Rayane Yachfine are convinced that the racist insults and constant abuse they endure is due to the fact that they are from Morocco. Braedon Vail said his team is investigating the reasons for the dispute and the incident has been reported to the Attorney General’s Office due to allegations of racial discrimination. Chris Hennessey, superintendent of the Barre Unified Union School District, assures that he is cooperating with the police to investigate the incident.
