Di Giannantonio (Ducati/6th): “We are nearing the top” / MotoGP

Strong training, losing races and a great Grand Prix – for VR46 Racing driver Fabio Di Giannantonio, staying in Texas was an entertaining rodeo with great results.

After a very good training day, both pilots from the Pertamina Enduro VR46 teams managed to move into Q2 together. For “Diggia”, who has only been competing for manager Pablo Nieto’s team since this year, the sprint race was a bit of fun. In the first lap, the Italian had to park his 2023 Desmosedici with a technical problem.

Without racing experience, Fabio Di Giannantonio entered the 20-lap Grand Prix with a certain level of naivety: “I didn’t have a good feeling before the GP. It’s always important to learn something in the sprint at the long distance of the GP. So I myself could not transfer Any data or experience. Also, the warm-up didn’t go well. So I just wanted to let it happen and do better.”

And the Roman got this in an interesting way. However, the performance of the VR46 pilot was partially lost in forward turbulence events. Because behind the leading battle, Di Giannantonio was able to move up to sixth place. At the finish line, the 25-year-old still had visual contact with the front runners.

“Diggia” saw a calm in his exchange with the media. “Without a question, I’m more satisfied – I’m very happy with the race. The start was very good. But then I had a little problem in one turn and I lost ground again. But I was very surprised how well things went for me. My speed was very high and, above all , you went so far that I was able to catch Jack and Franky. Then I couldn’t get there, but I’m quite happy with sixth place under these conditions.”

When asked about his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who took third place in the 2023 World Cup and who, as in the Qatar opening, finished behind Di Giannantonio in Austin, #49 replied: “To be honest, I don’t really care. about that Thoughts. We really talk about it as a team and share a lot of information. The overall situation is very good, but in the end everyone is trying to get the best result for themselves.

With a third consecutive top 10 result and best race for the VR46 team at the US GP, the teammate is showing a high level of consistency. “Today you can see that we are again close to the top. That is the best news. It is working consistently and I believe we can make more progress in the next race.

In the still young 2024 MotoGP season, Fabio Di Giannantonio is ninth in the World Championship behind Marc Márquez – two places ahead of the second-placed yellow-yellow Desmosedici of Marco “Bez” Bezzecchi.
