A conflagration of catastrophic proportions erupted in Somerville on Friday, with a multi-alarm blaze tearing through a residential abode.
Firefighters from the local fire department were summoned to the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m., immediately finding that the residence was completely engulfed in flames. With the severity of the inferno rapidly intensifying, a second alarm was quickly sounded, with an additional three engines, two ladder trucks, and a rescue squad being dispatched to the location.
The tenacious fire was extinguished after an arduous two-hour battle. Thankfully, no casualties were reported, although considerable damage was done to the structure.
Investigations into the cause of the conflagration are currently ongoing. It has been speculated that the fire may have been the result of an electrical malfunction, although this has yet to be confirmed.
The Somerville Fire Department has urged local residents to take extra precaution when it comes to fire safety. Inspections of all home fire alarm systems should be carried out on a regular basis, and any necessary repairs should be addressed immediately.
