BMW M takes us on a trip to Northern Sweden to test its new M5 and M5 Touring in cold and handling conditions.

Things seem to be heating up around the new BMW M5. While the manufacturer is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of its family sports car, we are still eagerly awaiting the new generation. The M5, the seventh of the name, which made headlines in 2023 through the first leaked images of the model. “Even” models since we must not forget that there will be a sedan, but that it is the return of the station wagon M5 Touring!

And then BMW M has published on its YouTube channel the first episode of a series where we follow the brand’s engineers on a road trip between Munich and Arjeplog, in northern Sweden, in the polar circle. A chance to see these new M5s for the first time in action!

It is clear in the video that the cars are still hidden, but for all that, the engineers explain that these are cars close to the production model. In fact, the purpose of the trip, apart from the fun that (we think!) BMW employees have behind the wheel, is above all to test the cars to make sure they are developed enough to be sold. That nothing is left out. That everything works, even in bad cold conditions, snow projection (which can block the sensors) or care.image

In the video, engineers confirm that the new BMW M5 and M5 Touring will be able to count on four-wheel drive. The electric transmission will also be included and, in addition to the hot engine, the electric motor that we know will be installed in the automatic transmission. M5s can be used electrically only, thermally only or hybrid.

As for power, nothing is confirmed here. But we can expect to find under the hood a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 whose power, together with electric power, can reach 750 horsepower (as in the BMW XM Red Label)! Maybe we’ll find out more in future episodes!
