Horacio Pagani says he was inspired by two types of racing cars when he conceived the new long-tail Huayra R Evo. The idea of creating a new iteration of the car attracted him to IndyCar racing, where he became interested in the aero screens in open-wheel racing. This gave rise to the concept of making an open version of his own car. Additionally, Pagani’s passion for the long-tail racers of his youth played a major role in his decision to extend the Huayra R’s tail.

The result is a new model with performance close to that of the second-tier Le Mans prototype racers, which offers more power, more sound, more power, and more performance to owners who will participate in Pagani’s Arte in Pista program.

Under the hood, the Huayra R Evo retains its 6.0-liter V12 HWA engine, but undergoes a series of enhancements, including a revised ECU, new intake manifolds, and camshafts. This upgrade results in an output of 888 hp (662 kW/900 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque, marking this as Pagani’s most powerful model to date. Additionally, the V12 can now rev up to 9,200 RPM, sending its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

The engine is now enclosed in a new body with a long tail, which is about 7.5 inches (190 mm) longer than the outgoing Huayra R. It also now has removable hood panels, to let the V12’s roaring sound reach you. ears without obstruction.

Despite the gap in the carbon fiber body work, the car is now 21 percent more aerodynamically efficient. On top of that, the longer tail and other modifications result in a 45 percent increase in downforce. In its low-track mode, the hypercar develops a power-to-weight ratio of 199 mph (320 km/h). Since the Huayra R Evo has a dry weight of 2,337 pounds (1,060 kg), that’s an impressive amount of downforce.

The body design is so clever that the car delivers a high level of power when the roof panel is removed. Pagani claims that the Huayra R Evo produces 5 percent more downforce in open top mode compared to closed mode.

And that’s not just a new body trick. Thanks to the advanced carbon fiber technology previously developed for the Utopia, Pagani claims that the Huayra R Evo is now 38 percent stiffer than its predecessor, despite boasting an overall lighter weight.

Unsurprisingly, the car’s chassis has also been upgraded with a new waterproofing device that can raise and lower the car’s height without changing the wheel dampers. Pagani says that it has also worked on the Huayra R Evo’s elasto-kinematics to improve camber recovery, bump correction, and ensure good grip in all conditions.

It says it has also increased the area of the carbon-ceramic front brake discs by 100 percent with a new slot design and larger pads. That has resulted in increased stability, better temperature control, and better durability.

Prices for the car have not been revealed (nor do they have production numbers), but Pagani says that those who buy and participate in the Arte in Pista club will have the opportunity to drive their cars on some of the world’s most famous tracks. Included in the package are non-competitive track events, as well as data analysis, track and mechanic engineers, a physiotherapist and a nutritionist.

“The Huayra R and Arte in Pista program has expanded our customers’ experience with the Pagani brand beyond our wildest dreams, and provided new opportunities for Zonda R and Zonda Revolución owners as well,” says Horacio Pagani. “It’s our pleasure to share the Huayra R Evo with you, pushing the boundaries of performance and emotion even further. Let’s start by removing the roof and take it from there…”
