Automata Was Inspired By Neon Genesis Evangelion, Says Yoko Taro

When it comes to sci-fi, there are several series that you cannot ignore. From Star Trek for War of the Worlds, creators have always leaned into the wonders of science fiction. As for anime, that fact applies as do IPs Neon Genesis Evangelion changed the type, and now the new report shows Nier: Automata was born from Evangelion.

The confession comes from Yoko Taro, a famous filmmaker Nier series. They talked to IGN about their process Neon Genesis Evangelionand it was then that Taro agreed Evangelion it affected them greatly.

“The work I am most inspired by is Neon Genesis Evangelion. I thank you for praising Nier: Automatastory, but really it’s just a lot of retelling Evangelion, so there isn’t much authenticity to it. I don’t watch recent movies, so I’m more inspired by memories of works I’ve seen in the past,” they shared.

Without doubt, Evangelion and Nier: Automata they have their differences in the story, but their main plots are similar. When you look Evangelion, the series follows a group of young EVA pilots who must break humanity’s essential humanity in an effort to protect the world from the Angels. About the Taro series, Nier: Automata replaces those pilots with androids like 2B as they wage war against the Machines. The characters go through very different lessons in each series, but basically, both titles are about humanity’s struggle against an alien war.
