BYD, its new plug-in hybrid is called Shark

BYD he confirmed that His new pickup will be called Shark. This model will have a powertain hybrid Pluginwill make its debut Beijing Motor Show which will open its doors in a few days. The Chinese carmaker also took the opportunity to share a teaser in which its new model can be seen in shadows. Although no specific details can be seen, it’s not a problem because we already know several things about the pickup, including its design.

WHAT DO WE KNOW?

The BYD Shark is designed to compete directly with the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger and has been developed specifically for the global market. From what has emerged so far it will be 5,457 mm long and 1,971 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 3,260 mm. The pickup will remain on platform Two Way Off Road (DMO)the same one that powers the Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 model.

Thanks to a series of images shared directly by BYD and spy shots, we already know what the new models will look like. Unfortunately there is still no official information about the powertrain specifications. In the past, the car manufacturer only talked about one system power of approximately 350 kW.

Considering the use of the DMO platform, the electric train may be the same as that of the Bao Leopard 5. If so, we will have a 143 kW 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder with two electric motors, one at the front and one at the back. The platform, however, also allows the integration of a 180 kW 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine. In the past there were also rumors about the possibility that in the future the pickup could also be offered in a 100% electric version.

Fortunately, to discover more technical details of this new model you will only have to wait a few days. During the presentation, BYD should also provide the first information on the sale of the image.

According to earlier rumors, the new model is expected to be released initially in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, South Asia and the Middle East.
