Nissan plans five new electric models for Europe

Nissan continues to drive electrification and growth and has launched a new global strategic plan “The Arc,” we reported. Now the manufacturer has published more information about the “Range”. Accordingly, the Leaf, whose production of the current generation has been discontinued, will also be relaunched.

The AMIEO region (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania) plays a key role in implementing the updated strategy: the regional strategy is specifically designed to boost sales and thus contribute to global goals. Backed by a diversified portfolio of electric and conventional vehicles, volume growth in all key markets and financial discipline, the course is set for a rapid shift to clean electric mobility.

Nissan wants to increase its global sales by one million units a year, with the AMIEO region contributing about a third (300,000 vehicles) of this. Thus, 16 electric vehicles and 14 conventionally powered combustion engines will be introduced worldwide. Five new models of electric vehicles and six models of combustion engines are planned for the AMIEO region. This also includes a series of popular models – such as the Nissan Leaf.

Also in the works: an electric car in the form of the Micra

In order to strengthen its competitiveness and its product portfolio, Nissan wants to continue to use strategic partnerships. In collaboration with Renault and its subsidiary Ampere, which specializes in electric vehicles and applications, a new compact electric car is being developed as a successor to the Nissan Micra and two new light commercial vehicles are being launched. In Oceania, Nissan is using its partnership with Mitsubishi Motors to launch a new one-tonne pickup truck. Along with the UK, India will be one of the key export hubs in the AMIEO region. To this end, the alliance with Renault will be strengthened and the production presence will be expanded.

The introduction of electric vehicles is now planned throughout the AMIEO region. Europe continues to take a leading role in implementing the Japanese manufacturer’s global electrification strategy. By 2026, more than 40 percent of cars sold across Europe are expected to be fully electric or 75 percent electric.

Dual charging for Nissan electric vehicles

For this purpose, the Japanese automaker is implementing the EV competence center “EV36Zero”, which will later produce next-generation vehicles and batteries at the production site in Sunderland, England. Nissan follows a 360-degree approach to developing and driving a zero-emission vehicle and, together with partners, is investing up to three billion pounds (around 3.94 billion euros).

Nissan’s vision of a universal, fully electric ecosystem also aims to commercialize vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology: In a first step, all electric vehicles offered in Europe should have dual charging options. Through a new partnership in this area, Nissan aims to provide cost-effective two-way chargers to feed energy stored in a high-voltage vehicle battery to the electrical grid. This creates new sources of income for customers, and the environment also benefits when renewable energy is used.

“The Arc” plans in the private markets of the AMIEO area

Africa

In Africa, Nissan expects sales to double from 56,000 units in the current financial year to 110,000 units. Customers in the region will be able to get two new SUVs produced in India within the next three years. In addition to the introduction of the Nissan e-Power drive system, a fully electric vehicle is planned for the South African market.

Middle East

Five new Nissan SUVs are set to be launched in the Middle East, including two models manufactured and exported in India. Arc’s corporate plan also lays out a strategy for the introduction of electric vehicles. Nissan wants to increase its position in these key markets to achieve further growth.

As part of the company’s ‘The Arc’ initiative, Nissan plans to launch three new models in India. Sales are expected to nearly triple to 95,000 units by 2026, an increase of 63,000 vehicles compared to the 2023 financial year.

In the coming days, two new SUVs from the Nissan and Renault brands will roll off the assembly line at the Allianz RNAIPL plant in Chennai. With an additional export capacity of around 100,000 units by 2026, India will be a key export hub for Nissan in the AMIEO region along with the UK. In the medium term, the development of a new electric car is also planned, which will be produced in Chennai.

Europe

Five new electric cars will be launched in Europe, including the new Leaf, the Juke and the all-electric successor to the Micra. As part of the joint venture with Ampere, a fully electric variant of the Interstar van and a new light commercial vehicle based on the FlexEvan are also planned.

To ease the transition to a fully electric future, Nissan is also developing the third generation of its e-Power drive system, which creates an electric driving experience. Electricity for this is generated on board by an internal combustion engine. With this model and product offensive, Nissan aims to increase its sales across Europe by 40 percent to more than 170,000 units per year during “The Arc”.

Oceania

Four new Nissan models are being launched in Oceania, including a one-tonne pick-up from a partnership with Mitsubishi Motors. As electrification becomes more important, newer electric vehicles are expected to be introduced in Oceania.

With 140 markets and a population of around 3.8 billion people, the AMIEO area is huge – and the opportunities are huge too.“, so Guillaume Cartier. “As part of the new corporate plan, we will ensure that we are prepared to compete. In line with the global strategy, we are changing our company from the inside and creating new opportunities from challenges. We are creating additional revenue streams and improving our offering to customers.

The Arc partnership program is designed to drive growth and change in the AMIEO region, laying the foundation for Nissan’s long-term vision, Ambition 2030, to be a sustainable company in a clean, safe and inclusive world.
