Ford is set to launch a fully electric version of its popular Explorer SUV in Europe, challenging Volkswagen’s ID.4 and Hyundai’s Ioniq 5.
The new model, dubbed the Explorer PHEV, will be equipped with a twin-motor powertrain that produces a combined output of 365 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This will allow the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, while having the ability to reach a top speed of 124 mph.
In terms of range, the Explorer PHEV will offer an impressive 48-mile all-electric range, thanks to its 14.4kWh battery. The vehicle will also feature a hybrid mode, allowing it to run on both electric and petrol power. This will give the SUV a total range of up to 500 miles.
In addition to its powertrain, the Explorer PHEV will come with a range of advanced safety and driver assistance features. These include active lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system.
The Explorer PHEV will be priced from £55,000 in the UK, making it competitively priced against its rivals. It is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2021.
Ford’s latest electric offering is sure to capture the attention of European consumers who are looking for an electric SUV that offers both performance and efficiency. With its eye-catching design and advanced powertrain, the Explorer PHEV is poised to become a major player in the European EV market.
