Roof problem on some 2024 Silverado and Sierra | Car news

Some 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks are experiencing a problem that is forcing manufacturers to temporarily stop selling those models.

The problem is that some may have a crack in the roof metal on the passenger side.

A document published by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), similar to Transport Canada, shows that approximately 3067 units are being inspected as part of the action on the standard 1500 models, including the HD 2500 and 3500. General Motors’ ( GM’s message to dealers, dated November 20, indicates that the models under investigation were discontinued in October.

The exact cause of the crack is not mentioned in the document, but the damage occurs on the passenger side of the combined roof panel, under the curb.

If a crack is detected, the document advises dealers to repair it. This obviously involves removing a few items from the cabin, such as the passenger side curtain airbags. Technicians are asked to add anti-corrosion material and sealant under the weld, before painting the exterior roof.

It is unclear what is causing the crack in question, which is clearly a concern.

It is not known how long it will take to fix the situation and all the affected models will lift the sales suspension. The first stage started in October. In a statement sent to Motor1, a GM spokesperson confirmed that the sales suspension still took place:

“We can confirm that a small number of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks may have been built with a split roof. The sales suspension is in place while the affected vehicles are identified and repaired. ยป

As of this writing, no reports have been released regarding this situation. Considering the huge profits that come from selling these cars, we will want to quickly rectify the situation at GM.
