Amazing: with this new Lexus you drive a different car every day

Lexus wholesales model names that somehow we can’t memorize without mistakes. Logic completely eludes us. In any case: the Lexus LF-ZC will appear in 2026 – hopefully under a different name. That will take time and that’s a shame. Because we think the Lexus LF-ZC looks great. You might say it’s a liftback, but Lexus is talking about a sedan.

The fact that the Lexus LF-ZC is by no means an SUV is beneficial for aerodynamics. Lexus cites an interim Cd value of less than 0.20. Given the low, raised body (height is 1.39 meters) and the lowered rear window, this could easily work. The short hood flows smoothly into the windshield, which in turn flows seamlessly into the roof. The shape probably has a positive effect on the electric range, but Lexus is still keeping it a secret.

Column twice as big

Lexus says it’s aiming for a range that’s twice that of current BEVs. If we include the Tesla Model Y, this means that the Lexus LF-ZC will have a range of about 1000 km. Not too crazy, because Lexus is from Toyota and this brand has announced an EV with a range of more than 1000 km.

At 4.75 meters long, the Lexus LF-ZC is significantly shorter than the Lexus ES which is almost five meters long. This makes it roughly the same length as the Lexus NX (4.66 m) and the Tesla Model 3 (4.72 m). The wheelbase is 2.89 meters, exactly the same as that of the Tesla Model Y.

Lexus LF-ZC imitates other cars

Lexus says the LF-ZC will have an unprecedented impact on the driving dynamics of electric vehicles. Arene OS software allows Lexus to emulate other vehicles. We already knew that an EV can mimic the sound of a car with a combustion engine, but Lexus goes one step further. That means: not only sound, but also vibrations and driving characteristics. The driver can tailor the driving experience to his personal preferences, says Lexus.

So you can pretend you’re driving a Porsche 911. Or a Kia Picanto. What do you want. So you can, as it were, drive a completely different car every day. Voice control uses artificial intelligence.

The Lexus LF-ZC gets a new design for the season. Gigacasting is used for this. Instead of many different parts, the body has only three main parts: front, middle and back. Tesla and Hyundai also use this to save costs.

Lexus says the automated assembly line allows cars to move independently through each stage of production. A car can drive itself once it has a battery, motor, wheels and wireless components. Eliminating transporters from the production line shortens mass production time and saves capital costs, Lexus said.

The Lexus LF-ZL is an SUV

Below is known about the second concept car. Unlike the LF-ZC, the LF-ZL is an SUV. It will be 5.30 meters long, surpassing the current top model, the Lexus LS. The wheel is very large at 3.35 meters. The LS comes up to 3.12 meters and you can sit in the back seat and stretch your legs. The width and length of the LF-ZL are 2.20 and 1.70 meters respectively. It is not yet clear if there will actually be a production version of this car.
