A year and a half after the release of the new GranTurismo, Maserati is now also launching the updated GranCabrio. It is currently only available as a Trofeo; other versions will be revealed later.
Just as the first Dutch copies of the new GranTurismo appear on Autogespot, Maserati is pulling back the curtains on the new GranCabrio. The converter had been coming for some time as several test models had already appeared. At the moment, only the Trofeo version is an option. In recent years, Trofeo has become the name of the most powerful version of Maserati. In the GranCabrio this is shown in the 3.0L twin-turbo V6 which produces 550 hp and 650 Nm. Just a bit more than the same Nettuno engine in the MC20, which is good for at least 630 hp and 730 Nm. It’s also interesting that the less sporty Levante and Quattroporte Trofeo have a 3.8L V8, which means they’re more powerful than the GranCabrio Trofeo. However, Maserati knows how to find something about it, because like the GranTurismo, the GranCabrio will also be available as a Folgore. It will have three electric motors and will therefore have 750 hp and a boatload of torque – 1350 Nm – on board.
Fortunately, a power increase of 100 hp compared to the previous model is not the only development. This means that the roof goes farther and faster than in the previous model. Instead of 24 seconds at a top speed of 30 km / h, the new GranCabrio does it in just 14 seconds at a speed of up to 50 km / h. The interior has also been significantly changed, as we see with the new GranTurismo. The steering wheel looks lighter and has more buttons than before. There is also carbon fiber on the center console and on the doors.
Unfortunately, the GranCabrio cannot get away with a stronger construction compared to the GranTurismo, which means that the Modena and Trofeo weigh 100 kg more. This saves only a tenth of a second in acceleration, allowing the GranCabrio to reach 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 315 km / h, five kilometers per hour lower than that of the closed variant. The convertible price is slightly higher: the GranTurismo Trofeo is available in the Netherlands for €278,795, while the GranCabrio is said to cost €292,166. Fortunately, Folgore in the Netherlands will not reach the three-ton mark, as it is not affected by the BPM program. It is not yet known when the new GranCabrio will be presented.
